>>>After that, I have always considered him more of a clown than a serious musician.>>>
I can definitely see the clown element in him. But his voice seemed to fit those early songs and of course the higher voice of the other guy was key too...Michael Anthony. His voice in the background was a perfect fit too.

I saw them on the same tour. In Gulfport, MS. It was I think the 6th or 7th Van Hagar show. Also saw the original incarnation in 1981 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia. Epic.

I've seen most of the big named bands in concert over the years, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, ELP, Kiss, Jethro Tull, Rush, Journey and others.
I have to say, Earth, Wind and Fire was the absolute BEST show I've been to.

Sammy is still on the road. Bet it’s a good show, too!

Anyway, I was shocked when "Diamond Dave" changed outfits between each song, and demonstrating how much of a diva he is in the extremely pejorative sense. That might have been being a diva, it might also have been for the videos. The videos on MTV were noted for having clips from different songs showing on the same video as though the video was made from different concerts throughout the tour.

Wow, yeah, Earth Wind and Fire good stuff. My brother went to a lot of concerts and he said the best looking girls he ever saw were at a Rod Stewart concert. Back in the day.
