It was in the east, in 2014 and for a few years after. However, when Russia invaded and attacked Ukraine in earnest in 2022, throughout the country, it ceased to be a civil war and became a nationwide, full-blown war.
Just as we did in Vietnam in the 1960s, and early 1970s: We jumped in with both feet into an ongoing civil war, and turned it into something much, much more.
I didn’t call the war in Ukraine a civil war. I compared the deadliest war on American soil with the bloodbath that is occurring in Ukraine.
You implied it was like a Civil War and said if we could hold elections then, why can’t Ukraine do the same. Among other reasons because cities in the entire country are subject to unpredictable shelling, and voting areas would be likely targets. At no time were either American North or South cities under threat of frequent targeted bombardment all the time.
