Businessmen do not always see money in linear ways. He didn’t send Mexico an itemized bill and Mexico didn’t remit currency; but he did get Mexico to police their side of the border and to hold migrants in Mexico until they had filed proper applications, per international law, which slowed down the influx hugely. Trump also onshored some businesses that had been planning to locate in Mexico to escape the Democrat economy that Trump inherited. Those things were substantial cost savings to us.
No wonder Anne Coulter soured on him.

I've often noticed that when Trump says something idiotic, his MAGA followers have to interpret to the rest of us rubes what Trump *really* meant to say.

I saw it yesterday at Twitchy. Multitude of comments said article was BS & Trump wasn’t calling supporters losers. In video, Trump said maybe 2 lines, which kept repeating. Could’ve been my tablet, but why only 2 lines? Users posted link to full speech where he said that.

The democrat party spent a lot of time fighting this sham issue.
Taking politicians literally can be very dumb and infantile. When Donald Trump said that he would make Mexico pay for the wall. My translation was that he would make every effort to build a border wall. Who actually paid for this was irrelevant to me. I just wanted the damn wall built.
Remember that Trump was the only politician talking about this. It was revolutionary. Just witness all the efforts that POS Paul Ryan made to prevent this wall. Back when we had majorities in the House and Senate. Then somewhere around 2018, POS Paul Ryan put up a very substantial fence/wall around his home in Wisconsin. A three acre property iirc. Supposedly his wifey has lots of money (trust? inheritance?) from her wealthy family.

Dittos and common sense. A full wall was estimated to cost 23 billion or so. Which looks super ultra cheap these days. To keep out the invading hordes. These days Biden allows in 6 million illegal aliens. And they are all sucking down Federal tax dollars. They are paid to invade up. What an incentive!
A 20% tax/fee on remittances to Mexico would have done the trick.
