The 80's will be remembered as the golden age of malls, jah, gag me with a spoon.
Quite bittersweet.
I get the online sales stuff. But I’m wondering if the incredibly varied tastes of people now for really specialized items has made it tough for almost any store to keep the kind of inventory needed.
Malls were great in Florida in summer... what happened was malls turned into gang and thug hangouts. People who wanted /to shop - and stores that didn’t want to be robbed deserted,
Also, crime studies were done at the time that showed most shoppers left shortly before four hours because mall’s had scary bathrooms at the end of long hallways - places where many shoppers were robbed, disgusted with filth and/or gangs and/or bullied.
Turned out if mall bathrooms hired attendants and kept the places clean shoppers spent more and the malls thrived. Short sighted owners did the mall in.
