He’s probably right about John Lennon. He prefered a harder sound to theirvsongs, while Paul prefered melodies.

Yet Paul did the most hardest sounding song, Helter Skelter.

The Beatles collectively and individually sang about love, one girl. It seems to me most of the Stones songs were about picking up girls, one night stands that sort of thing. They’re not as romantic as the Beatles.

“ If the Lennon and McCartney didn’t let The Stones record their “I Wanna Be Your Man”, they might never have gotten off the ground.”

That’s right.

Even the Queen snubbed him for knighthood.

It's complicated.

Why John Lennon and George Harrison Won’t Ever Be Knighted

Traveling Wilburys were a good band but didn’t really sound like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones. Closer to what Bob Dylan and Tom Petty we’re doing on their own already

Sigh. I wasn't comparing the Stones/Beatles to the Traveling Wilburys. I was making the point that they succeeded in "combining raw with polished". To spell that out more clearly, Dylan and Orbison were raw and soulful thrown into the very polished mix of Jeff Lynne and George Harrison (both coming from masterful studio engineering practices). As far as this notion about "what Tom Petty was doing already" - that's because he was already being produced and mixed by Jeff Lynne for a number of years.

Keith’s X-Pensive Winos were a damn good band. “Talk Is Cheap” is better than anything the Stones have done recently.

Sorry I wasn’t questioning you about comparing anything, I was just making my own observation that strangely the Traveling Willburys while sounding good as it was, didn’t really have a Beatles or Stones vibe like I would have hoped but sounded closer to the music Tom Pretty and Bob Dylan were already doing. I’m not even considering the production or recording qualities.

It’s complicated

“…he [harrison] also declined to accept an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) — allegedly because he was insulted by the offer of a station lower than McCartney’s knighthood.”

It’s not complicated. This article is complicated.

Of yeah. High school drinking song. Almost a one-off. Beatles weren’t Lilly white with helder skelter and drug fueled lyrics. But there were no match for the stones raunchy lyrics.

Stones made a career out of mick’s filthy mouth. Now mick is old and no longer wants to sing brown sugar. Ha ha.

I remember my cousin telling me about the Beatles and saying they brought the music back to the old rock and roll. But they didn’t.

It was the Stones who did that. There’s a certain momentum and energy like a rolling train that the Stones totally captured. It brought me right back to some of the black groups who had sort of gotten eclipsed for a little while when the two genres started merging. The Stones were more in touch with what had come before, and it brought the whole thing together again.

I don’t think the Stones were ever surpassed by any other group.
