Operations with un-crewed surface vessels could harm Russian logistics – UK Intelligence
European Pravda, Ukrainska Pravda
Wednesday, 9 August 2023, 09:38
https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/08/9/7414799/
The role of uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) in the war between Russia and Ukraine is growing and they can be used against the weakest points in Russian sea-based logistics, according to UK Defense Intelligence.
SOURCE: UK Defense Intelligence update on the Russian-Ukrainian war for 9 August, as reported by European Pravda
DETAILS:
The Russian merchant tanker Sig was damaged near the Kerch Strait on 4 August by a drone attack.
A day earlier, there was a similar attack on the Olenegorskiy Gornyak landing ship, and two days before that, it appears, there was an unsuccessful attack on Russian patrol boats when they were believed to be escorting the Russian merchant ship Sparta IV, according to UK intelligence.
Analysts note that although Sig and Sparta IV are civilian vessels, they have been used for a long time to transport fuel and military cargo between Russia and Syria.
Quote: “Since 28 February 2022, Russian military ships have not been able to pass through the Bosphorus, leaving Russian military forces in Syria and the Mediterranean heavily dependent upon Sig, Sparta IV, and a handful of other civilian vessels.
The attacks show that USV operations are increasingly a major component of modern naval warfare and can be turned against the weakest links of Russia’s sea supply lanes.”
BACKGROUND:
-On 5 August, UK Intelligence reported that the ship Olenegorskiy Gornyak, which was attacked in the port of Novorossiysk, became the largest seriously damaged military vessel of the Russian Federation after the sunken cruiser Moskva.
-A representative of the US Department of Defense said after the attacks that he was “not going to get into talking about Ukrainian operations or alleged Ukrainian operations.”

Day 531: 9 Aug
BIG WIN! Ukrainians Liberate 9 Towns. Russians SUFFERS HUGE LOSSES | Ukraine Updates
Today there is very good news from both the south and east.
In the last weeks of July, we worked tirelessly to convey to you the very productive operations and the great achievements of Ukraine. Now the picture drawn by the Ukrainian forces began to become clearer.
Ukrainian forces are the winner of the month, closing the month of July with huge gains.
5 critical settlements in the east and 4 in the south are being liberated by Ukrainian forces. While this prepares the ground for the Crimean offensive of the Ukrainian forces, it also controls the strategic areas in Zaphorizhia and Donetsk.
This has already begun to paralyze the mechanics of the Russian army. Kiev appears to be escalating its counterattack this week, with significant troop deployments.
Kiev forces are making advances in the direction of Melitopol and Berdiansk, launching an intense offensive on the southern Ukrainian front lines. Ukrainian forces settled on occupied lines near Malaya Tokmachka and Rabotino, Zaporizhzhia region.
In the direction of BERDYANSK, the Ukrainian Armed Forces advanced 10-12 kilometers from the main defense line of the Russian Federation.
Numerous Russian sources claimed that Ukrainians attacked Russian troops near UROZHAYNE, and some suggested that Ukrainian forces cordoned off the village.
Russian troops conducted defensive operations in the border zone of the Donetsk-Zaporizhzhia region.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops tried unsuccessfully to repulse lost positions near RIVNOPOL and MAKARIVKA.
The Ukrainian General Staff noted that Russian military personnel, including the 247th Guards Airborne Regiment, refused to participate in combat missions near STAROMAYORSKE due to the significant losses of the Russians and the victories of the Ukrainian army.
Ukrainian Southern Operations Command Spokesperson Nataliya Humenyuk reported that Russian forces laid mines on the outskirts of settlements on the Kinburn Spit in the Mykolaiv region and prevented residents from leaving.
Humenyuk noted that morale among the Russian forces in the Kinburn spit was low and the Russian army did not rotate in the area.
HUMENYUK reported that when Russian artillery units were deployed to the firing positions on the Kinburn Spit, the Ukrainian forces continued to make precise attacks on the Russian artillery positions.
In addition, more than 170 clashes took place in these parts of the front during the week.
RUSSIAN troops launched attacks in the Novoselovsky district around Kupyansk, tried to advance, but to NO AVAIL.
The RUSSIAN army DID NOT get any results in the are a of the Serebryansky forest in the direction of the Port.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces continues to advance in the Bakhmut region.
There, two square kilometers of Ukrainian territory were liberated in one week, and a total of 37 square kilometers since the start of the counteroffensive.
In the AVDIIVKA and MARYINKA region, the invaders tried to advance to gain full control over these villages.
While the UKRAINAIAN ARMY liberated STAROMAYORSKOYE in the Donetsk region, nothing came of the Russians.
In just one week, 12.6 square kilometers was saved in all sectors of the front and 204.7 square kilometers since the start of the counteroffensive.
-On the other hand, more videos have emerged from the Ukrainian operation to seize the Donetsk Oblast town of Staromayorsk last week.
-It shows the troops of the 35th Marine Brigade patrolling the largely devastated city that sits on a long main highway and the Mokri Yaly River.
-The video also emerged from a Ukrainian attack near Svatove in Luhansk Oblast.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the RUSSIANS suffered so many casualties that they could not recover all the bodies.
As a result, an unbearable smell of corpses is felt in the city.
An operation video has been released showing Ukrainian soldiers clearing the town of Kleschiivka near Bakhmut.
In the video, the destroyed Russian equipment and the ruined bunkers in the green area were quite remarkable.
Soldiers of the 15th Separate Artillery Reconnaissance Brigade discovered elements of the enemy Buk surface-to-air missile system, which were subsequently destroyed.
Ukrainian Land Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi reported this.
Detachments of the A1108 military unit detected the Buk SAM, which was supposed to cover the skies of the invaders and was destroyed within five minutes.
Oleksandr Syrskyi said that “Our army has thus freed up an entire area for the uninterrupted operation of our artillery comrades.”
A transport and loading vehicle and a 9S18М3 radar were discovered and destroyed.

Putin’s Many Paradoxes and Russia’s Weaponization of Food:
As Russia’s aggressive acts unleash chaos and suffering amidst a desire to stay on top, there is an inherent madness as the serpent continues to bite its own tail.
KYIV POST

RUSSIA’S so-called special military operation – or rather its OPERATION COLONIZATION– in Ukraine, continues to surprise. These surprises come from a decided absence of strategic thinking by Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin. Fundamentally, a paradox sits behind Putin’s war with Ukraine. This paradox reflects the tension between Putin’s desire to demonstrate that Russia is still a major power on the world stage, and actions that continue to undermine Russia’s economy and international standing.
Central to this tension are differences between Russia and Ukraine regarding the VALUE of human life. A recent battlefield incident highlights this difference. Serhiy had been wounded and separated from his Ukrainian unit. He was spotted by a Ukrainian drone operator who reacted rapidly to save him. The drone operator from the 15th National Guard stated that they did not want to leave Serhiy as “every life is important to us.”
PUTIN and the KREMLIN place NO VALUE ON LIFE. Whilst Serhiy was being rescued, a Russian priest from the Orthodox Church proclaimed on Russian state television that Russian forces “came to war not to kill but to die” as a form of sacrifice. This type of statement reflects the value placed by the Russian establishment on the lives of Russian citizens. This further reinforces Putin’s paradox as his war with Ukraine has made matters much worse for nearly all Russian citizens.
Putin’s decision to leave the Black Sea Grain Deal brokered by the United Nations is another indicator of the disdain the Kremlin has for human life. This is another paradoxical decision. On the one hand, Russia is now deliberately targeting Ukraine’s grain storage and export infrastructure. This is civilian infrastructure, and moreover it is infrastructure that plays a critical role in world food markets and in feeding some of the most vulnerable people living on this planet.
There is a FORM OF MADNESS here as Putin has decided to weaponize food and perhaps his plan is to create a GLOBAL FOOD CRISIS. On August 2, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that “Moscow is waging a battle for a global catastrophe. In their madness, they need world food markets to collapse, they need a price crisis, they need disruptions in supplies.”
On the other hand, it is important to explore which country benefited the most from the Black Sea grain deal. The answer is perhaps surprising – China. Ukraine exported 7.9 million tons of grain (just under a quarter of the grain involved in the Black Sea initiative) to China. Putin’s decision to prevent grain from being exported from Ukraine to China raises some interesting questions regarding the special relationship that is supposed to exist between these countries.
Putin’s war with Ukraine has led to Russia’s on-going isolation from international affairs. Putin is trying to address this isolation by trying to make friends. This process includes his intention that Russia “will be ready to provide Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Mali, Somalia, Central African Republic and Eritrea with 25-50,000 tons of free grain each in the next three to four months.”
There is a PROBLEM here in that Putin’s offer of between 150,000 and 300,000 tons of grain does NOT COMPENSATE for the 750,000 tons of Ukrainian grain that was purchased by the World Food Program (WFP) and shipped immediately to countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Sudan. The WFP is the largest humanitarian organization in the world and importantly this is not controlled by a single nation but was established by the United Nations.
There are rather too many Putin paradoxes. This includes his proclamation regarding the end of “neo-colonialism” and the emergence of a multi-polar global order. There is the obvious tension here in that Putin states that he is against the application of power and influence to subjugate other countries, but then offers “free food” to some countries, yet free food always comes with strings attached. Evidently, Putin favors colonialism but also practices neo-colonialism.
Putin’s rhetoric regarding his vision of a new multipolar world must be treated with caution. PUTIN’S IMAGINARY NEW WORLD has much in common with George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm in that all nations would be equal, but Russia would be more equal than others. A truly multi-polar world would be one in which initiatives led by organizations like the UN take priority over any initiatives led by any one country.
It is time to shift away from one nation trying to dominate global affairs to a world in which effective supranational organizations try to ensure that all those living on planet earth are treated equably. Of course, this is a utopian vision. The reality will be a continued struggle between competing politicians and nations, and this will result in negative outcomes for all.

War is both the art of strategy and entrapment. Armies that are successful in setting up traps for the enemy become even stronger. If these traps fail, the party setting the trap may face great losses. Recently, the Russian army tried to set a trap. However, this trap ended in a big failure.
Russian unmanned aerial vehicles had taken action to shoot down Ukrainian troops. In fact, they also shot down Ukrainian troops. However, the troops shot down by Russian drones were Russian soldiers dressed in Ukrainian uniforms. The Russian unmanned aerial vehicle operators had made a big mistake. What are the details of this incident? Let’s check out the latest developments together.
As you may remember from our map reports, Russian troops have been targeting Ukrainian positions located north of Robotyne in recent days. We have often talked about this topic in our map reports. The region is very important for the Ukrainian army’s advance to the south. In recent days, Russian troops have also moved to stop Ukrainian troops.
The goal of the Russian troops was to encircle the Ukrainian troops from behind. But this was a great danger. Because in order for Russian troops to encircle Ukrainian troops, they had to be able to cross Ukrainian positions. The Russian commanders adopted an interesting method to achieve this goal. This method was the wearing of Ukrainian army uniforms by Russian soldiers.

‘I Promise, I’ll Get You Out’: Russian Families Desperately Trying to Get Sons Off the Frontlines: In two intercepted calls, Russian soldiers and their families discuss ways in which they can protest the actions of Kremlin military leaders who are “sending us to our deaths.”
KYIV POST

Intercepted phone calls between Russian soldiers and their families suggest mothers are desperately trying to find way to get their sons of the frontlines in Ukraine, urging them to film videos complaining about the conduct of military authorities.
In one call published by Ukraine’s Military Intelligence (HUR), a woman says her and a friend are going to a military prosecutor’s office but says the more people that go to protest the better.
“There should be more people with us,” she tells her son, Dima. “If I come there by myself – no one will give a f**k.
“So tell your boys to call their relatives, too. There should be other calls besides one of yours.”
She also urges Dima to record a video in the hope the protest will be more impactful.
“Dima, listen to me carefully,” she say. “You have to record a video with the boys, or guys have to call their wives, and they have to join us in our complaints.”
She doesn’t specify what the main message of the video should be, but allegedly, it must be aimed at complaining about the military authorities and their irresponsible decisions.
Dima’s replies apparently can’t be heard in this intercepted call.
The mother adds: “You get up and shoot a video, you don’t need the Internet for this, then you’ll figure out how to send it. The main thing is that there is a video.”
At the end of the conversation, the woman promises her son that she will ‘definitely get him out from there’.
“Dima, I told you I’d get you out, do you hear me? Come on, I love you very much, son, I’ll get you out for sure.”
“ONLY FROM ME MOURNING, EVERYWHERE I FIGURE, SO OF COURSE THE COMMAND HAS A GRUDGE AGAINST YOU. LET ALL THE GUYS CALL”
[The mother of a Russian serviceman discusses with her son how to avoid participating in active offensive actions in the armed aggression against Ukraine. Mobilized servicemen of the armed forces of the Russian Federation, together with their family members, collect video materials (video messages) about their illegal stay on the territory of Ukraine and incompetent actions of the command of units when organizing an offensive (assault), as a result of which large losses of personnel are noted. t.me/DIUkraine/2653]
IN ANOTHER INTERCEPTED CALL, two women, one of whom is said to be the mother of a Russian soldier as well, discuss how a video made by troops under the command of “Zima” complaining of being “sent to their deaths” has gone viral on gossip websites.
“Hello, hello! How are you doing?” speaker 1 asks.
“Well, today, your guy is getting much attention on all sites. ‘Zima’ (commander of the 3rd motorized rifle brigade) has become famous today. The Russians from Voronezh recorded a video, and the soldiers’ wives wrote a letter stating that he [Zima] was sending them to their deaths,” speaker 2 replies.
“They mentioned that many guys died, and there was no support at all. They also pointed out that all the humanitarian aid was taken, and everything was forgotten when they needed it the most. This news is spreading across all sites and becoming a topic of gossip everywhere,” speaker 2 added.
[”THEY RECORDED A VIDEO, OR THEIR WIVES WROTE A LETTER THAT HE SENT TO KILL THE GUYS, WHICH IS VERY MUCH LOST”
The occupier’s mother will discuss the irresponsible attitude of representatives of the command level to the subordinate mobilized personnel who are involved in conducting armed aggression against Ukraine on the territory of Donetsk region. it is established that the commander of 3 MSB 1 omsbr 1 AK does not provide proper material and material support for the mobilized personnel from the Western Military District and does not perform proper organization of assault operations, and the personnel is involved in offensive actions on the principle of “perform tasks at any cost”. https://t.me/DIUkraine/2653]
Additionally, previously released intercepted communications between Russian soldiers and their friends and family have revealed evidence that contracted Kremlin troops have been given orders to wipe out all the soldiers, fighting on the first line of defense if they try to retreat or leave their positions, with paperwork listing them as missing in action (MIA) already having been prepared.
While the exact date of the intercepted call is not known, the situation for soldiers on both sides is difficult as Ukraine’s summer offensive gains momentum.
Ukrainian soldiers have told Kyiv Post they would fight on, but morale has been suffering with no quick end in sight.
However, the release of such intercepted conversations by Ukraine’s intelligence services indicates that Russia’s military finds itself in a much more dire situation, with SOLDIRS COMING TO FEAR THEIR OWN SIDE as much as that of their Ukrainian adversary.
Your phrase made me chuckle. His "content creation" is sourced back to his being in Switzerland, which quite a number of tools now demonstrate. Therefore, as a pilot and one who speaks English, he would be a perfect candidate for the program.
"Hello, my friends, and welcome to...."
One reads of training for English-speaking pilots, and "...three different training phases. Firstly, Ukrainian pilots will have to go through English language courses before they will be, in a second time, allowed to operate the planes themselves. Thirdly, infrastructure must be established to follow up on the maintenance of the planes on Ukraine's territory, Dedonder [ Belgium ] said."
Source: https://www.euractiv.com/section/defence-and-security/news/more-countries-join-ukraine-fighter-jet-coalition-pilot-training-to-start-in-august/
Further, "The main training issue identified in the evaluation was the Ukrainian pilots not being comfortable with the complex avionics of the F-16, which displays information in English. Language ability is elsewhere listed as a 'concern,' although the assessors state there was a 'noted improvement in English aptitude' over the course of two weeks for both Ukrainian pilots."
Source: https://news.yahoo.com/exclusive-us-could-train-ukrainian-pilots-to-fly-f-16s-in-4-months-184136820.html
Moreover, the number of pilots sought is rather small. One reads, "Yuri Ignat recently told Air Force Magazine that Ukraine has at least 30 pilots with sufficient English-language skills, as well as maintainers, ready to travel to the United States for training if an F-16 deal can be agreed upon."
Source: https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/this-is-how-long-it-would-really-take-ukraines-pilots-to-convert-to-f-16s
So it would seem that an English-speaking Ukrainian pilot would be a natural fit for serving and getting trained on the F-16, rather than living in Switzerland and doing his daily "content creation" for his well-monetized site.
As his YouTube channel is generating "$ 91.7K LAST 90 DAYS," I wager going back into Ukrainian service as a pilot (he would be a 31st) would not be financially advantageous.
Source: https://tz.youtubers.me/denys-davydov/youtube-estimated-earnings/en
I heartily suggest all Denys' fans follow the link above and verify whether this is factual or fake. For any who deem it fake, I will provide several other resources which also evaluate YouTube channels, including the location of where the "content" is "created."
Daily Denys is being daily created in Switzerland. Daily Mom is being generated in the US. Both can be investigated rather easily.
And you are correct as to the CNN article. How about the NYT article, "After Suffering Heavy Losses, Ukrainians Paused to Rethink Strategy." There is in all this good, old confirmation bias on many sides as to what to think about the Ukraine-Russia war.
Among the facts which cannot be disputed, Google / YouTube pockets 45% from all these monetized channels which are promoted in this thread. That tallies in the moment to more than a million USD, and it is only August.
Click. Ka-ching. Click. Ka-ching. You can hear it at Google's headquarters in Silicon Valley and you can hear it from as far away as Switzerland.
Look at all of the deleted comments. I see the censorship is still strong on the Daily Mom Spam threads.
Daily Fascist Mom Spam threads
Update on the conflict in Ukraine for August 9, 2023:
- Western analysts and media sources are beginning to admit the poor progress, heavy losses, and fundamental flaws of the Ukrainian offensive and beyond that, the unsustainable nature of the proxy war in the first place;
- Ukraine is shifting away from attempts to storm Russian lines and attempting instead to conduct attritional warfare, however, it lacks the material resources to do so which necessitated “storming” tactics in the first place;
- As Ukraine’s offensive falters on the battlefield, Kiev and its Western sponsors have been focusing on aerial and naval drone strikes to create the illusion Ukraine maintains the initiative;
- Quantities of artillery, armor, and trained manpower determine the duration of Ukraine’s offensive. The disposition of both Ukrainian and Russian forces including the reserves of both sides will determine if a breakthrough will occur;
- Russian military industrial capacity and the material resources it produces for the ongoing military operation ensures that no matter where Ukraine’s offensive ends on the battlefield, it will leave Ukrainian forces exhausted, depleted, and unable to sustain their fighting capacity;
- Industrial capability between the collective West and both Russia and China is and will remain into the foreseeable future leaning in favor of Russia and China;
- The West gambled and lost on “small wars” as it enters an end game for geopolitical unipolarity against Russia and China and the reality that modern warfare against peer and near-peer competitors requires industrial capacity the West doesn’t have and cannot obtain;
It is a "curated" thread with distinctly thin skin. Seems in service to a few monetizing channels, whose operators are most certainly enjoying the fruits of their "content creation" labor. There is no proof nor validation that these YouTube "content creators" are passing on their hundreds of thousands to the Z government. There is proof a plenty that the favorite works in Switzerland.
Is it a matter of promoting clicks? Possibly. Is it a matter of providing support for political pressure to send more USD to Ukraine? Is it open therapy rooted in confirmation bias? Possibly. What else?
I come to suspect it is also aligned with the Biden-Democrat stance to things. Why?

Sounds clearly like one of mom's sources is politicking that we attack Russia directly. This certainly seems Hodges' prayer. Might be hers too. She might clarify. Then again, maybe not. Best regards.
Pretty soon, she’ll have deleted so many comments, she’ll only be conversing with herself, which is basically what she does anyway.

But dig this: She has no issues with posting garbage from Denys Davydov, a draft dodging Youcraynian dirtbag living large in Switzerland, making big bank from the blood money generated from his jingoistic YouTube channel while some poor sap fights in Youcrayne in his place. Gross.

I'm hoping that at some point, some righteous folks step up and end his vile war profiteering.
