The 14 or so MCU films culminating in “Endgame” were a moviemaking masterpiece taken as a whole. I still think “Endgame” is one of the best written movies ever, allowing for the fact that it had 13 “prequels” to set the stage. Thanos’s character arc was terrific.
Immediately after that, Disney/MCU decided that they could let their freak flag fly, replacing known and loved characters with unknown women and minorities who had no character arc at all.
The “Avengers” had a phenomenal scene where Loki, who had horns, tried to enslave a crowd and make them kneel. A Jewish man did not and said he wouldn’t kneel to a “man like you.” Loki says, “There are no men like me,” and the man replies, “There are always men like you.” Just as he is about to get zapped, (Captai) AMERICA steps in to shield him.
Earlier when Loki had escaped, Thor and Iron Man fly out after him. Cap starts to put on his parachute. Black Widow says, “You might wanna sit this one out. Those are gods out there.” Cap as he’s jumping says, “There’s only one God, ma’am and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that.” Or, take the heavy spiritual symbolism in “Mandalorian” season 1, where a man who puts on the FULL ARMOR rescues a child (Grogu) from certain death (abortion), and stands against the evil. As he does, all the other Mandalorians take up their faith and stand with him.
Some of these are very good. But usually after one or two good seasons, they immediately jump into the wokemobile and become stupid, cowardly, idiotic, and meaningless.
They went bad for me when I watched some “how they made them” videos and realized that basically the whole movie is computer generated animation. In other words, a cartoon. Kind of spoiled it for me.
Yep. The producer and people involved in Secret Invasion, NEVER READ THE COMICS air was based on.
Screw Disney and Iger.
“Ironman One had a story and there were some funny lines.”
And that started things rolling. When Hollywood stumbles upon something successful, they try to copy variants of it endlessly, instead of trying to actually be creative.
Disney’s newest movie, “The Haunted Mansion “, grossed just 33M domestically in its first week, with a production budget of 150M
That classifies as a bomb.
O would like to see a movie based on Frank Miller’s “The Dark Knight Returns”, graphic novel, which is pretty politically incorrect.
At one point, the female police commissioner comes up behind Batman, points her gun at him and tells him he’s under arrest. Batman punches her in the face, takes her gun, says “Nice gun”, and walks away.
Became bad because of WOKE agenda.
While I have read lots of books in my lifetime the last one I read not long ago was Dr Zhivago. Twice!
The Critical Drinker channel on YouTube does a great job of covering this type of stuff.
