The government would have tried to trace her money to find her. All transactions of $10,000 or more would have been reported to Uncle Sam.
I wonder if the UK, Australia or some other countries have similar laws, if she is on probation when she gets out, it might take a while, but I bet she could find somewhere to go and get paid for her story.
Given who we’ve heard about being involved with her, most of them are from the US, UK, Israel, and other Western European countries, who all happen to be at war with Russia.
Putin is former KGB, what better way to throw a bunch of people like Bill Clinton and other powerful people under the bus than to have her come to Russia, Putin and his Oligarch friends probably would be more than happy to put together a nice package of money to create hell for their enemies.

She has Amendment VI rights to counsel that I believe would supersede Son of Sam laws.

She’s have better luck arguing first amendment but I put nothing past the DOJ.
I liken her and her ilk to drug dealers and users. As with drugs, it takes two types to keep the trafficking business in operation, those operating the system (as in drug pushers) and the clients (as in drug users).
Both the pusher and the user are criminal. Without one you will not have the other. My point being the user needs to be punished, which is that client list of elites.

Both the UK and Australia have their versions of the Son of Sam law. Russia has more on it’s plate right now so I don’t think Putin would waste a thought on Ms Maxwell.
