Yep. Game day Saturday. I was Varsity so I got to wear my jersey on Friday.
“We never had co-ed gym class”
In 1977? We did. In fact, all my school years always had co-ed gym classes, and I went to 9 schools across the country and globe.
Love that glick. Very accurate.
“We’d wear our football jerseys on game day.”
Yep, those shirts were chick magnets too! Back in the 70’s I had #88, Lynn Swann’s number.
What was the bigger chick magnet. Being on the football team, or being in a band?
Well, in high school the football team was visible, in the school, and that’s where all the girls were. Being in a band meant only some of the girls knew of it, and most girls thought that meant you were a ‘hood’ who was dirty and smoked pot. Several guys I hung around with were in a band, and the girls were partiers, so there was that, but being in football had a better reputation.
Ha! Sure was. I graduated in '77 and remember taking my sticks & seeds and rolling them in a baggy with some oregano and then selling it to the dumb Frosh.
I was in class of 1980 so started high school the fall of 1976. This video is a great representation of what high school life was like. The banging of lockers in the hallways brought back memories for me because that's exactly what it sounded like. Everybody just kicked or slammed them shut.
By senior year, most kids were driving themselves to school. Almost all of us had jobs outside school and could afford to buy a car. You could get a decent second hand car for $500 or less.
We were in a hurry to grow up and get out from under our parents. Totally different than today when it is routine for people to live with their parents well into their 20s - or 30s even.
High school back then could be a rough place too. Boys had to learn to fight or they got constantly harrassed by bullies.
45 years ago, it seems like a much simpler time, I guess I would be called a modern day Luddite today.
