I stayed far away from that when I visited. 😬
It’s $60 per person to do it. Better yet, go to Peach Springs, AZ and pay to drive to the bottom of the canyon. Greatest, little known tourist spot.
Falling 4,000 feet must have given him plenty of time to consider what was at the end of his fall...how ghastly.
4,000 feet and then splat. What was left of him?
We can also use google maps to see the heights involved, Layers->Terrain.
The hill _above_ the tourist trap is ~4800 feet above sea level. The depth of the valley below the tourist trap is about ~2000 feet above sea level, probably much higher.
Even if he made it all the way to the river level ~1200 still not a 4000 foot drop.
I read one blurb that implied a ‘ranger’ said “over 4000 feet”. Welcome to Earth 2023.
Still, it was a momentus accomplishment.
If the walkway qualifies as a “span” then he is a baSe jumper. If it is technically a “building” then he is a Base jumper. Otherwise it was “earth”ish and he is a basE jumper.
Oops, was not is. Even if we give him all three(BaSE) still not qualified for his BASE# (assumes no prior experience)
A very unique exit point!
I don’t think he was any sort of BASE jumper, since he didn’t have a parachute. Just a jerk committing suicide.
