Sorry. The last two are Chinese.
I will point out, though, that this reflects what the Chinese people believe - that the higher levels of government are honest and the locals are much more corrupt. It's essentially the opposite of the way Americans think.
It’s the general Asian culture. Japanese dramas are even more extreme in that regard to me. Not only are the women submissive but also child-like.
Interesting.
Thank you for the links. How did you manage to choose all the ones I’ve seen? Must be a gift. :)
Octogenarians and the 90s: He starts out as a shifty salesman and ends up being the backbone of a senior citizens home, although they celebrate the female lead (Janice Wu) who is definitely no slacker herself in taking care of the residents. It’s a slower drama, but I liked their character development and the various stories of the residents.
You are My Hero: Noticeably similar to Descendants of the Sun, but different enough to be able to enjoy. I watched it for Sandra Ma, whose acting seems natural and effortless, and they did a good job together.
At first, I didn’t even recognize him in New Life Begins, as I hadn’t looked up the cast before I started. His appearance doesn’t lend itself to costume dramas, but he became believable as the story went on, especially as his character was on the frail, scholarly side, very unlike his more physically heroic character in You are My Hero.
Reset is basically in the Groundhog Day category, but he and the female lead, Zhao Jin Mai, managed to make it interesting, as did also the scriptwriter.
I recognized many of the faces in the two videos, but there were quite a few, generally in historical costumes, that I don’t think I’ve seen before. Perhaps they’re in the wuxia dramas, which I haven’t seen many of.
My favorite actors shown in historical:
A-P - I can do R-Z if it would help
Bie Thassapak Hsu - Cinderella Chef
Chen Zhe Yuan - Mr Bad
Darren Chen - Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty
Dylan Wang - Love Between Fairy and Devil
Fu Meng Bo - sleuth of the Ming Dynasty
Jeremy Tsui - Royal Rumours
Kim Jin Woo - Mr Queen
Kim Min Jae - Poong the Joseon Psychologist
Kim Nam Gil - Live Up to Your Name
Kim Woo Seok - Forbidden Marriage
Kim Young Dae - Forbidden Marriage
Lee Jong Hyuk - Our Blooming Youth
Lee Jung Shin - Red Sleeve
Leo Wu - Love Like the Galaxy
Neo Hou - A Girl Like Me
Nie Yuan - Legend of Hao Lan
Niu Jun Feng - Go Into Your Heart
No Min Woo - Forbidden Marriage
Park Hyung Sik - Our Blooming Youth
Park Yoo Chun - Rooftop Prince
Evan Kim was in DEAD POOL (1988)...He played a Chinese-American detective who worked with Inspector Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood)...
I thought that DEAD POOL was a fine Dirty Harry movie...
Can’t believe it’s been so long since I checked your kdrama/cdrama updates on FR. Saw your list. I love many of your choices. Riley Wang’s dimples are the cutest thing. Loved him in Back to the Brink, and all his other roles.
If you have Netflix, they have bought the rights for Hidden Love with Zhao Luisi and Chen Zhe Yuan. It will start airing this Friday. I could watch CZY’s facial expressions as he (spoilers omitted) all day long.
Hidden Love Ep 1
9 episodes are currently free and, if you check periodically, you’ll find a VIP episode will turn into a free episode.
I’m boycotting Netflix for their support of liberals, and it’s driving me batty as they have so many good dramas.
Netflix has been heavy on KDramas, but has apparently added a bunch of CDramas for release. Prime is a big Zero for me on their offerings. I mostly watch Viki.
My least favorite message on Viki when I think I’ve found something interesting: *Restricted Access*
It has been 102-108° here in TX so I am watching my Chinese Novellas a lot. I am watching The Real has Come (KDrama), but they are really dribbling those episodes out. I did enjoy CDrama GenZ recently about traditional Chinese Medicine.
I’m in the middle of all of these.
