Good post!
REAL reform against “gun violence”?
Begin about age twelve or so, with introducing the ENTIRE school age population to firearms, up close and with the intention of demystifying the “magic” power of guns. Expand this into the care, feeding, grooming and proper respect for the potential of the devices, and follow up with training in the selection of target, framing the target, and firing upon the target, all with the express purpose of doing this under controlled conditions. Once the familiarity with the weapons is established, then work on developing skills in accuracy and the correct procedures to prepare for the recoil, aiming, and firing, followed by whatever procedures are necessary to load the next round into the chamber. Repeat the aim, firing and reload until these are second nature, all the while sharpening up the accuracy.
This would have twofold effect - the guns just become another fact of life, like electricity and automobiles, a useful tool and with its own purposes. Also, it would be obvious quite quickly which of the learners, whether through carelessness, or those that harbor malicious thoughts, are the ones who should NEVER come into possession of a weapon. Then the perpetually timid, who cannot be compelled to pick up a weapon under any circumstances, even after attempts to familiarize them, should still be given training in how to avoid, evade, shelter in place, or somehow distract the active shooter, so it may be possible to make a concerted effort to neutralize or otherwise disarm the shooter.
And to have their Social Security number tattooed somewhere on their bodies, so they may be identified from among the fallen later on.
Upon graduation from high school, and with the certificate of training in their possession, the youth are then eligible to take ownership and possession of their personal firearm. None of this business about waiting until age 21, or 25, or whatever. Adulthood implies the capability for adult responsibilities.
And on the longer term, the military forces shall have a MUCH larger pool of potential recruits in the future, all with the basic knowledge of firearms, and a large civilian population that stands ready to resist any internal or external invasion - “You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.”
Make it so, Number One.
Great thoughts and words, preaching to the choir.
Wow, you don’t care much for constitutional based freedom.
“Wow, you don’t care much for constitutional based freedom.”
Kindly elucidate. I do not understand your comment.
This is ENTIRELY in keeping with the Second Amendment, which, last I heard, is still part of the constitutional freedoms.
"well regulated"
Like electricity and automobiles, huh? And you think these are gonna be familiar to a generation 30 years from now?
40,000 people are killed every year by automobiles. When is the government going to reduce the speed limit to 15 MPH?
Well at least it is helping keep the population down.
The annual age-adjusted suicide rate is 13.42 per 100,000
individuals. Males die by suicide 3.5 times more often than
females. On average, there are 132 suicides per day.
Ill use them... have some anti gun moms on the trap team . go figure.
Column left. March.
Mark time. March. Company. Halt!
Right. Face!
At close intervals. Dress right. Dress.
Present. Arms!
Ready!
Aim!
Fire!
First rank kneel. Reload. Second rank. Fire at will.
Third rank. Ready.
That is "well regulated"....moving units into formation to shoot your enemy to death.
I would further recommend that all media - broadcast and internet - be required to provide prime-time spots teaching people how to safely handle weapons. Would save a lot of folks from accidents.
Get back to me after your attack on the enemy when they deploy one helo against your line of fire:

Bookmarked, printed off...and, link emailed to myself so I don’t forget this.
Thank you!
But then, the pilot and crew land and return to their respective homes to find their houses (and families) burned to the ground.
Do you really think it’ll be a head-on battle? A bunch of cave-dwellers in Afghanistan kicked our asses and we surrendered and ran away in the middle of the night. How do you think it’s gonna work when there’s no place for the “mightiest military in the world” to run away to? This country hasn’t won a major conflict in DECADES. Think that will change with the JoeTato Admin?

“Just after 8 p.m. on Tuesday night, officials with the Redding Police Department said their officers were called to the Burger King off of Eureka Way for a report of a man seen walking around with a handgun on his bag. Officers said they responded to the area and contacted the suspect, identified as Ryan Battles.
After searching Battles’s bag, police said they found an antique black-powdered pepperbox revolver, black powder and iron pellets.”
All excellent points but facts, no matter how obvious, don’t work in emotional arguments.
Another gun related article.
“Highland Park High School students planned a walkout demanding gun control today, but the demonstrations were quickly interrupted by reports of a possible gun on campus.
The walkout was planned for 10:14am, the same time that the Highland Park July 4th parade shooting started just nine months before.
According to a letter from District 113 Superintendent Bruce Law obtained by ABC7 Chicago, the district received an anonymous tip shortly after the walkout started that a student allegedly had a gun.
The school went into lockdown, and the city released a statement alerting neighbors that there was a “heavy police presence” on campus in light of “a report of a student potentially in possession of a gun at school.””
