Wallen was in the news not too long ago and the left was trying to “Cancel” him.
Read the third paragraph of his Wiki bio:

I think he got his drinking modulated and the Country Music crowd refused to cancel him.
It's cliche central on this thread by the way. People think they are clever inserting the Tom Petty quote that we've all heard a billion times or a link to that video showing the six sound-a-like "bro" country songs mashed together that at this point had to be a decade ago.
Just like people always think they are witty on cruise ship threads with their "floating petri dish" comments.
And no, I don't play basketball (though I am 6'3") even though people always think they are funny asking me if I do on account of me being tall and all. I like to just say "basketball is for black people" but I'm careful who I say that too.
And the weather up here is fine, it's 40 degrees and sunny. "How's the weather down there" is my usual retort to that.
I like a wide variety of music including Country and Western, Opera, Classical Orchestrated, String Quartet, Pop, Rock, New Age, solo piano, jazz, blues, a bit of soul. Perhaps Techno and Rap are the two genre that hold no interest for me.
Surprisingly, as I don’t care for the style normally, Wallen and Chris Stapleton kind of speak to me in my youth fifty years back.
Not everything has to be genius and original. The greatest hits of Air Supply or Barry Manilow sound just fine as background music when I'm sitting out on my deck on a hot summer day watching the sun go down.
As for Tom Petty, I like his music in general but many of his songs are similar to his others and "just OK" - much like the music of George Strait - to respond to his bad rock with a fiddle comment. Still, I would not change the channel on a Tom Petty song any more than I would a George Strait song. Both styles are pleasant enough to my ears.
I often say I don't like rap music because the hatred and anger of the lyrics. But even if they were rapping about helping some grandmother across the street or handing out sleeping bags to the homeless, that type of music will just give me a headache. Same with techo and heavy metal.
I don't like music that gives me a headache.
But I will try to appreciate music I am not familiar with as opposed to just saying I don't like it. For instance, it took me a while to appreciate classical music. But I'm glad I stuck with it because it is now one of my favorite genres.
I don’t sharply disagree with you. But you were responding to a post that was responding to the claim that no-one outside of the US cares about country music.
ONe thing to keep in mind about judging new music: when I was a kid, you weren’t exposed to old music. Whatever was out there was terrible recording quality. And some good old music ended up being dismissed by us kids because it sounded like bad old music.
My son loves ‘70s rock. That’s like me loving ‘30s music when I was a kid. So is he going to listen to some newcomers attempt to recapture that ‘70s feel? No, he’s going to listen to genuine ‘70s rock. And any newcomer has to immediately compete with Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd.
BTTT!!!
By the way, every single song from Morgan’s new album has charted on the Hot 100 in the same week. All 36 songs from that “triple album”.
Don’t think that was pointed out yet here.
Morgan Wallen is NOT woke, which gives me a little hope for country music.
