“Bad rock with a fiddle” - Tom Petty
Unlike Africa, which imports all its music (though African bands play American songs)

Never herd (sic) of any of this and really don’t listen much or enjoy country music. However I do like that the genre exists, much preferable to rap, and occasionally there are some that emerge as great enjoyable hits.
—> Country Music is mostly an AMERICAN thing and outside of our shores, you hardly hear anyone wanting to listen to this genre of music.
Sorry. I was responding to the statement you made in post #1
—> I’ll be more impressed if he accomplishes the same feat in Ireland’s music charts.
Garth was popular there, so it could happen… but now they have their own stars.
It’s kind of just a novelty. Artists are basically marshaling their fans like a flash mob to swamp radio stations with calls to play their songs so they can force their way into the charts. Good for them for find a way to beat the system, but anything like this is irrelevant as regards what the listening interests of the general public are, which is what the charts are supposed to be trying to measure.
Good video!
Good stuff!
British/Irish albums that TRIED to be country (and sorta failed, but were damned good anyways):
U2’s (various including) the Joshua Tree
Peter Gabriel’s (various including) So
Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here
Elton John
The Beatles
Ed Sheeran
Dire Straits
Fleetwood Mac
The Who
Rod Stewart
Country Club
Jethro Tull
Supertramp
Nice list!
Haha I had never heard of him either and so listened to a song...your description is dead on pasteurized rap. A lot of autotune as well in the song I listened to.

Oh, it hurts, it hurts, make it stop!
American country music has strong roots in Irish music, and Irish country music emulates American country. Apart from having picked up some flavor from Cajun, Scottish and Black music, Irish going country is just country returning home!
He ain’t no Billy Joe Shaver.
It’s mostly women that listen to this crap
It’s important to understand that traditional Irish/Scotch/Celtic music took root in the mountains of Appalachia in the 19th century, and grew into what we now know as country music.
Having never listened to his music, I went and listened to the first 20 seconds or so of “Last Night”. I assure you, it wasn’t worth that 20 seconds. On a scale of 1 to 10, it was about a minus 5.
Not even a good country tune and certainly no where near the perfect country song.

AND FFS, WATCH THE CLIP!!!
(It’s like a country USA 4 Africa famine relief without the USA or the Africa or the famine relief.)
The real problem is the dearth of competition. Much of today’s country music is unlistenable. (Don’t tell my wife I said that)
>> and a guitar solo that sounds like Slash is playing it. <<
Oh, how I wish. No-one does guitar solos like Slash. David Gilmour will always be my favorite since he evokes an almost spiritual response in me, and Prince is crazy under-noticed, but Slash, holy cow, ... as far as COMPOSING goes (not showing off), Sweet Child O’ Mine is probably the best guitar music in the history of top 40 radio.
20 years maybe. 100 years? Nope. The Beatles will still be there though.
