Each bag is worth $126,000.
Are the Oscars still on TV?
That could buy a lot of javelin missiles for Ukraine.
Rich people giving rich people gifts that they can easily purchase on their own. How nice of them.
Mark 8:36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
I hope they all get taxed on that.
There was a story a few years ago that the Academy reports all the swag bags to the IRS as income to the recipients.
You know they don’t give a f___ about anybody else.
It shows the existent and continuing cultural and social distance between the Oscar nominees and their audience - the elites on one hand and the average person on the other. The hypocrisy of it all is that you’d think Oscar nominees were not highly compensated for the works they are nominated for, which would be a lie.
What’s an “Oscar”?
Good...
126K. Should make them pay out @ 40k in taxes. Regardless if they use any of the stuff or not.
And they wi stand up there lecturing us all how we serve need to live without cars or fossil fuels and consume less to save the planet.
They do and they will get 1099s. Must be an interesting process how the Academy gets the dancing monkeys or their agents to give up their SSNs or EINs.
I sure hope Biden’s brand new 87,000 IRS employees are sure to tax those millionaires on their gift bags.
I don’t know people that go to ‘the movies’ any more. Maybe once a year. Who watches these pathetic, cringey awards shows? I cut out TV 10 years ago...really, who hasn’t and still watches this tripe?
Yes we may get lectured.
There’s a certain irony, in that, Hollywood studios use a heck of a lot of energy, generated by fossil fuels, in the production of their movies and TV shows.
Heck, I wonder what the carbon footprint of the Oscar ceremony is.
Most of this stuff is over priced crap that boutiques sell with massive mark ups. Its not really worth much. But if it shows up in a gift bag, people will talk about it. Or maybe it shows up in a stars bathroom. But more likely the B-listers who go to the Oscars will think its a cool product because its in an Oscars bag. And they may actually use it and purchase it.
Either way, now that we know the tax man will consider the swag bag income, most people will not touch the bag. And it will end up in charity auctions through out the city over the next year. A lot of people just steal them. And employees will take them home as well.
Swag is over priced stuff that has more packaging value than whole sale value.
