If you want something akin to cable in terms of channels I’d suggest either YouTube TV or DTV stream. I’ve had both and liked both. Right now I’ve got DTV stream. You can also purchase a Roku box and set up your own service by buying the stream services from the different channels like Paramount, Disney, Peacock and Discovery+.
Have had two Prime subscriptions for several years...
Have had two Paramount subscriptions for several years...
Very Satisfied with both...
Had Netflix, once upon a time for a long time, but dumped it and it’s 90% leftist crap, three years ago...
Do watch lots of old, old (1920s, 1930s, 1940s) movies on YouTube...
As an 89 year old, I appreciated good acting...
Free Pluto tv then the free Tubi tv.
Free Youtube channels that you click on the subscribe button. They show up in your Youtube app on say the Roku box you have.
Skysteam box with kodi 19.3 and a real-debrid account(6 months =$17)
We have been cable free for years and watch everything and anything for free. Movies in theaters, Netflix, all the pay services no account needed.
We have saved thousands over the years. RD $17 for 6 months can’t beat it.

#2 read a book
#3 take up a new hobby
#4 go shoot TV again
I’d like to cut the cable but the wife won’t let me until I can find a way to get some recordings off our Uverse DVR, and I’m not sure that’s possible. I’ve read that you can play the recording and use video capture to save to a PC but I’m just not that smart.
Wow .... no sports .... no locals .... no thank you.
The only reason I keep cable (for now) is Svengoolie on MeTV. Otherwise, there’s plenty of free stuff on Youtube (just install a good adblocker), sent to TV via Chromecast. I also have the Roku TV and I can access a lot of free streaming services, I just keep the remote handy to mute the awful awful awful commercials.
I have looked into numerous streaming services but, as there’s nothing I want to watch on any of them, dropped the idea.
I have only one comment
Compared to regular TV with all the control in the hands of the viewer...;
STREAMING SUCKS!
Unless I am dong something wrong.
