Same. Most of these organizations are mismanaged financially. Adult children may need the money for health issues and to weather the horrible economic times. Marie could put the money in trusts if she is worried about foolish spending on the kids part.
I give my 2 kids bumps when they truly need it. Just enough to get them thru. Id rather help them in their need while I’m alive.
Exactly.
Good for her
She has a good point. I could see not leaving the kids a fortune because that would take away their incentive to work...but I also think she could leave them some...say, a long term annuity that wouldn’t make them rich but would pay out enough to at least make sure they don’t fall into dire poverty. Or maybe take care of their house payments on a reasonable house (not a mansion), provide for their retirement and the grandkids’ education. That way if her kids wanted luxuries, they would have to go out and earn the money to pay for them.
My husband and I have good sons. We will leave them an inheritance. By the give it away logic, she shpuld also not pay for one bit of help after they turn 18. My step dad bragged that he never helped his kids after they turned 18. He is one mean bastard.
The small inheritance I received two years ago was a beautiful gift. It is allowing me to help a niece get started in college and get away from a bad family life. Niece has always been good and worked hard, but she needs help. It is helping us live a better life too.
I believe a few are adopted.
“She better hope she never ends up in a nursing home. Who would visit her?”

So....you buy your children’s attention? What is that worth? Perhaps you are joking.
My guess is her children are doing pretty well already on their own and wont starve when she dies.
Brewster’s Millions
I think it’s a 2 way street isn’t it?
If a parent cold heartedly tells her children she is giving all her money to homeless cats and the Democratic Party why shouldn’t they take that as anything other than a lack of love?
I told her not to worry about it as she and dad had given us everything we'd always needed. A great home, home cooked meals, clean clothes, discipline, work ethic, etc.
Things money can't buy.
Have you set up a corporate trustee to manage how the money is disbursed and what it is to be used for?
The answer is simple. Leave your children an inheritance with stipulations that require being successful in business and/or investments and receive the inheritance at age 62. That’s it. IF they can survive until then, they would have earned it and if not....Bu-bye.
That’s a fact.
My parents died at 96 and 97. Their inheritance has made the retirement of my husband and me more financially secure. I am very grateful.
I think they would have made Solomon sad, too. He wrote in Proverbs 13:22:
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children...
Mormon church will probably get most of it. After all, they did let her get married 3 times. Temple sealed for time and all eternity to a couple of different guys.
I have always wished I had a sister.
Like almost everything..money is as good or bad as the person who has it.
She must believe her kids can’t use it responsibly?
Her money, her decision.
I’m not even gonna make a comment.
Err...wait a minute...
“..If you want strong children, don’t make it too easy for them. It’s a temptation for most parents, but it is a mistake....”
^THIS^
I’ve seen it over and over too many times...even within our own families.
It takes the “masks” off individuals and one gets to see what they’re really like under that layer of facade.
First, they fight and contest the will until there’s a “winner”.
Then, those that manage to “win”, blow it all in a matter of a few months/years.
It causes strife/hate and splits the family forever.
Nope....spending every dime of it we can. What little might be left, will go to a charity.
I have to agree with Marie on this one.
