Florida man carrying nearly 500 grams of weed tries to steal plane to meet girlfriend, police say

Sixty-five years ago during Speed Week my pilot and I kept circling the New Smyrna airport waiting for the green light to land. This was used as an overflow field to the Daytona airport. It had no radio but used a red or green light to communicate. We never got the green light and finally landed anyway very carefully. We went to the control tower to find out what the heck was going on. Turned out they kept flashing us, but the bulb in the light was dead.

Having no idea how to even start or taxi a light aircraft, this guy would have never been able to take off. Even if he managed that, he obviously did not realize the plane would not have had enough fuel for such a long trip he planned, even if the fuel tanks were full.

2020 or today, with all the stories it looks like Florida has about 10-12 good men. Millions of others are “Florida Man.”

Florida needs something like “today’s feel good story” on the old Today Show. I think they ran out of stories and had to cut the segment from the show.
