No...the Car Talk guys actually did experiments on this and whether or not putting your headlights on before you start your car made a difference!

80s era high school auto mechanics lessons have not been totally forgotten.

Giving oil a chance to flow is a long time habit.

Today I took a couple of short trips in the local burbs. A couple of miles total.

Even after I got home and letting the engine idle for another 10 minutes, my temperature gauge never got halfway to normal.

Around 18 degrees at the time.

Tomorrow is an actual long round road-trip.

It also not a good idea to drive around with ICE and frost on your windows.

Truth.

Scraping the windows damages the glass and does not clear them well.

You're not doing it right.

Modern ice scrapers break the first time you use them anyways.

False.

Cold drivers are also more likely to make mistakes as they shiver.

Do you live in Florida? That's absurd.

Unless you live on the on-ramp to I-95, there’s no benefit to warming up your engine.

It seems like you almost have to let it warm up for several minutes to get the windows defrosted.

So my kid is an OTR trucker. His semi is parked at a truck stop while he’s home for four days for Christmas. To prevent the diesel fuel from gelling, it will be idling the entire time.

No.

Besides, I am warming up my car so the air is blowing hot, the seats are warm, the windows are defrosted or at least easy to scrape.

Fox10phoenix lol!
What do they know about frosted up glass and iced up wiper blades?
Then there is the frozen fingers from brushing snow and scraping the windows every morning at-10°F..that said, I give it 2-3 minutes before I move. (Minnesota)

Sure.

They know it’s hard on your engine to drive as soon as you start an ice cold engine and not even let it reach normal operating temp,

but the quicker it wears out and dies the quicker they think we will buy an E.v.

Urinalists.

Spit.

When it’s really cold I remote start it and wait 3 minutes while it warms up as I finish my coffee.

Yep   Just a bunch of climate propaganda.
The engine will warm faster being driven, which will allow the heat to turn on sooner while lowering your fuel costs, and reducing emissions, according to the Department of Energy.

Let it idle down so it doesn’t jerk into gear unless a south wind is blowing and then a little longer to smell my E85 mix

When it is -10F and I have to walk 200 feet to my car in 25MPH winds I am going to remote start and let it idle for at least 10 minutes.

Yeah, I tried to chase down who exactly Daniel Miller at Fox was. Unfortunately, it's a pretty common name and while I narrowed it down to a few suspects, I couldn't for certain pin this article on them.

Hemi 5.7 cam/lifter failure has been laid off on insufficient engine lubrication when idling. Recommendation is to start and drive.

We warm the vehicles up for about 5 minutes in really cold weather. It doesn’t hurt them.
