A little dog poop scattered around helps.

Oh, big poop if a Rottweiler.

“An important point, aside from the size or the brand.

KEEP IT A SECRET. Emphasize to him that he should NOT show it off to friends. If he does, he might as well post photos of it along with its location on Facebook.

Install it in a place where it can be hidden or camouflaged. Repairmen, social visitors, etc, should NOT be able to see it and identify it.

The same goes for safes holding other valuables. Once word gets out that you have a safe with guns or gold or cash in it, home invaders will be able to force the home owner to open it. SOP is to threaten to kill or torture a wife or children to force the owner to open the safe.

The safe is only as secure as its SECRECY.
In fact, secrecy is probably more important than the quality of the safe.”

This is wisdom. Read and heed it.

I would buy a Liberty or some other name which is devoted to safes and safes alone.

That is why the safe would be only one level of protection.

House security should be a given.

Cameras all around the perimeter of the home.

Flood lights.

Motion sensors in the house.

Sensors inside the safe which instantly text if there is movement of the safe.

I have all of these things and STILL have a gun insurance policy. You can never be too careful.

Yes, a couple nice big fake rubber dog craps, not far from the chain and dog bowl.

Buy enough safe to hold your guns. Safes are too expensive to buy for ammo storage. Find a used jobbox on Craigslist stand it on end like a safe and fill it with ammo. If you put enough in there it will take two or three gorillas to carry it away preventing ammo theft.

Why take up space in a gun safe with ammo? Makes no sense to me.

If I had guns in a safe I might keep a few boxes for each type in that safe.

but I know almost nothing about safes

I just liked the idea of a flat pack safe that you could install yourself anywhere, and move it again without professionals if you ever wanted to.

Personally I would principally probabaly use the The Purloined Letter Principle if I felt the need for this

Very expensive, but certainly nice. So far, every safe I’ve looked at is inadequate. Not tall enough, not deep enough. Bad reviews. This is an incredibly frustrating experience. Maybe just get a super strong dead bolt and tamper proof hinges for his closet, which is almost room-sized.

I bought my son a generator on Monday. With the cold front coming Thursday, we may have power outages. We went through the Texas blackout in February ‘21, and I’m not taking chances. Thanks for your good idea, though.

Son got a safe for himself, bigger than I ever could have afforded. I am so relieved. Thanks everybody for the advice.

Make sure you have the combo so you can protect yourself when he's not home :)
