Yep, they’ll kill a dog. Which makes them my enemy. When I was a kid, my dad worked on the railroad and met and knew a lot grain elevator owner/operators, many of whom owned hounds to keep the coons away. But those coons could hold their own and the injuries they inflicted on the dogs were pretty bad.
I hate raccoons. They’re cute when they’re little, but they grow up to be such aggressive little terrorists. I have to stand outside while our country cats eat dinner or the raccoons will run them off, even if it’s well before dark. They don’t care if you yell, growl or throw rocks at them.
They suck.
He’s got some solid rules.
Mama Bear: 1
I have a big one, too, but I don’t carry that one with me everywhere. My little one would only make a raccoon more mad at me, likely. Although, like I said, the ones in the woods here are very scared of me. Not true of the possums though. They aren’t the least bit fazed by my presence.
I’ve warned people that racoons are dangerous, but seeing is believing.
> Coons can be real vicious. <
Yep. Quick story: I worked for a number of years in an old steel mill. I never saw a single rat the whole time I was there.
But I saw a lot of raccoons rummaging through the trash bins. I was warned by the old timers to give those raccoons a wide berth. And so I did.
Yes, now the coon us alive to attack again.
Me, too. To keep the gun company.
Had a coon messing with my pond. Took me three days to trap him in a big live trap (he out witted me the first two times). Looked all cute until you got within 8 feet of the trap and he’d go full Cujo. I checked some videos and saw there was a 50-50 chance if you tried letting it go it would go after you so I settled the matter with a .22.
I have heard coons will drown a dog.
vicious little beast!
Yes, I’ve heard they’ll gang up on a dog, drive him into some body of water (pool, pond, doesn’t matter) and not let him out. Sick little bastards!
Also, watch out for the roundworm parasite they carry! Bad news.
Seen a lot of coons, that one doesn’t look rabid at all. So did they catch it and test it or just give the shots to be safe?
Yes, just to be safe. It took off after the girl’s mom tossed it out into her yard and wasn’t seen again.
Duke’s dog proof coon trap. I’m up to 61, so far this year.
This guy feeds raccoons. One day he ran out of hot dogs and all the police found were his shoes.....

they’ve killed my dtrs chickens as well.....when they lived in town in an apartment building with tall trees all around, they would leave cat food out on their back porch because they thought the raccons were so cute.
