This is as clear an indication as you will ever see that a new majority of Trumpist Republicans are heading for Washington in January. I think that Sasse understands that his Never-Trump views and attitude will have little place in the new Congress. He would rather leave under his own power than be shoved out the door.

The governor is a Republican, but he’s a wealthy country-club Republican. His family owns the Chicago Cubs. I wonder what kind of senator he’ll appoint. We might wind up missing Sasse.

It’s very strange for a US Senator, especially a young one, to retire even before their term is up.
This could be a good sign that the entire Congress including the Senate is soon to be overrun with new MAGA blood, and Sasse knew this and didn’t want to be a part of it.
Either that or something else is up with him personally, I’m just not buying that some new college gig even at UF would lure someone from the Senate alone.
