They would to rip out the cushions at the Paramount Theater when Sinatra played there. Girls staying for the second show never moved, even when nature called, for fear somebody else would take their seat.

I still remember the hype of the Beatles back then, yet no one had heard their songs.

So the radio had a “countdown” to their first song, “I want to Hold your Hand”. When it came on I wanted to say “WOW! They are great!” but old fashioned pragmatism kicked in and I realized they were just “Ho-hum”.

Next day at High School everyone was talking about how great the Beatles were. I guess I was the only one who was still sane and knew they were OK but nothing great.

A few weeks later, a music album of Beatles music was available all over town. A quick look showed they were Beatles Imitators. The Album title was THE BEATS!!!!

The Beatles themselves would eventually come to that way of thinking. They gave up touring in 1966 in large part that they couldn't hear themselves play and sing above all the screaming.

The women absolutely loved it however. There are many photos of cops blocking their ears at these concerts but I can't post them as they are all Getty images.

The girls screamed for Elvis as well but The Beatles took it to a whole new level. I'm guessing the lines to get into the women's restrooms at these concerts were rather short as they left it all in the concert hall.
