Oh, Eddie ❤️
My mother loved Liberce, and when he died, she was very sad.
I loved Church Chat. 😆😂
lol honestly didn’t know that!
I never really watched the show, I just knew it had some nut who dressed up as a woman in it when I was a kid!
Just shows you how long leftists have been shoving there perverse ways down everyone’s throats. The leftists of the 60s really started it.
Good Streets Of San Francisco involving a female impersonator with John Davidson.

Drag meant female impersonators not bizarre freaks which is what he means today. Some female impersonators were homos, some bi’s some were heteros but the goal was to actually look like a woman not a freak from hell.
I remember seeing this when it aired.
Ya well back then they were far and few between and they ran and hid back in the closet when they were labeled the freaks that they are. And on the flip side of that coin, this was also the beginning of the catalyst of acceptance...
Milton Berle in the 50s. It wasn’t even part of a skit at first. He would make these occasional appearances dressed as an unattractive woman with exaggerated feminine gestures and the audience would screech with laughter.
Some critics who were ahead of their time perceived it as mocking women, but the women were laughing the loudest. Early drag queens were mocking women, partly, too.
Nowadays it is totally different of course. The early days broke ground for transgenderism.
Maybe the term you are looking for is “female impersonator” or maybe just “impersonator” or “impressionist” (apologies to Claude Monet and the French gang). Whatever Bailey was sexually, he wore mens’ clothing off stage, was impersonating specific personalities, rather than just aping the other sex, and didn’t challenge the established order.
I’m sure there have always been transvestites around.
Some who got their jollies..or whatever they get out of it..but a few went full time.
I’ve watched about every episode of Watch My line game show from the 50s60s and I’m convinced a couple of the “women” contestants were men.
Then there was the occasional story..back in the day..where a man discovers his wife is a man.
Same with gays back in the 50s.
Nearly everyone knew Liberace was gay. People made fun of his flamboyancy..but they didn’t persecute him.
A “drag queen” is not a man claiming to be a woman. I knew a well known NYC drag performer. Gay but never claimed to be a woman.
Wasn’t that “Go, Jim Dandy”?
Wasn't that Black Oak Arkansas?
Check
It was a different genre of “drag” performance back then, not the lewd and lascivious productions that so many recent “drag” performers are insisting children be dragged into.
It was.
Yep, Bill Bailey and Jim Dandy.
