Have very little sympathy for people who die taking inordinate risks for their own gratification. The real tragedy is when rescuers or emergency personnel die or get hurt trying to deal with these adventurers.

The worst is missionaries that go to hellholes in Africa.
I wonder how many good men died for them?
They want to meet Jesus...let them.

Try reading Nietzsche and you will better understand the narcissism of these inordinate risk takers.

Unless I'm very mistaken, the Kamchatka Peninsula is that dangly down bit far east of where the image of the volcano was randomly dropped in by a J-School graduate.

A family from my church were missionaries in the DRC. Their walk doesn’t match at all with your mental image of mission work.

The real tragedy is when rescuers or emergency personnel die or get hurt trying to deal with these adventurers. They should have "no rescue zones"...where if you go in, you're on your own.

There are levels in between.

Yes. I’ve known many missionaries. They have given up creature comforts and everything to serve people and God. Even non-believers usually have respect for missionaries because of what they have done for poor people in many countries.
I also know hikers and climbers. They are driven to take these risks. I don’t understand it but I don’t scorn those who choose to do so.

You can thank the Muslims for that.

Thank you. Nietzsche is very interesting.

You have no idea what missionary work is, or why Christ commanded us to undertake it.

And I don’t give a shit. I care about good men having to risk their lives for them.

If you have read the good book you would know there are no good men.
