He was forcing the door with his left shoulder. Presuming the door was hinged on the right it's quite possible he spun to the left in which case the shoulder wounds would seem reasonable since his body would be turned. It does look as though he might have turned to leave at the third shot, but all three shots look to have been in 2 seconds.
meant to include you in post 41. I acknowledge the back shot could be problematical. Just don’t know all the facts, there are multiple witness’. And the time frame was only a couple seconds. I’d note he didn’t go down. I could see a grand jury or prosecutor go either way on the third shot but that does seem to be splitting hairs. He was on his feet and wasn’t visibly leaving the house, simply turned to his left.
From what I gather, the father fhot him from an adjacent window, not through the doorway.
Why does it matter?
The punk broke in, with the intent to do harm, after being warned.
His entire thought process — such as it was — eludes me.

Father and daughter disagree.
Father and daughter win the argument.
Three shots in two seconds. He wasn’t a threat after the first round, certainly not the second round. Third round wasn’t needed as he was almost off the porch.
He was visiting the love of his life.
“Daily Mail is trying to make the attempted home invading perp look like the victim.”
This is from TMZ. The Daily Mail is not half bad, as far as msm sources go.
Dad gave him a little relationship advice.
Well, I am sure I would shoot a kid who just broke through my front door. I love how the kid recoiled to the buck shot. It was like he thought he could swat the bullets away like some bugs.
Probably not on the third. I couldn’t differentiate the first and second easily. It’s problematical. I’m assuming the first two were the shoulder shots but don’t know for sure. The third, no back isn’t good but I probably wouldn’t split hairs over the time frame in this instance. Lot’s of variables. What was happening to the shooter, he could have been off balance. In two seconds, he probably could have begun to squeeze as the deceased was sideways but fired a fraction of a second later as he turned completely. A difficult situation for the father, hope he has insurance to cover legal bills. Hope he doesn’t have an anti-gun DA. And we don’t know what the fatal shot was, but I suspect it was the third.
ex psycho....pining for the fjords
I'd really be inclined to send it to court so that all the witnesses could be on record and crossed. That kid should have ran when he heard the word "gun". Testosterone is a hell of a drug.
In a similar situation I’d like to think I’d be a few steps back from the door, to avoid being hit with it and to have some reaction time. But you can hear what I can presume are family voices, we don’t know where they were. If the exterior doorbell picks up their voices they were probably close. Just no way to tell from what we know, other than the boyfriend is dead and the father is in some jeopardy.
Father of the Year!
Problem staying solved.
I can see that position. The article does mention that the GJ refused to indict, so I guess it’s moot. Perhaps the witness’ were on record there. Like so many of these incidents, just don’t know.
1. An ex-boyfriend won't accept any answer or warnings from the family and tries to smash his way into their home.
2. The ex-boyfriend is shot three time while belatedly re-thinking his first approach.
3. He gets out into the main driveway and then collapses - and nobody tries to keep him alive - you know, stop the bleeding, keep the airway open, prevent shock....
4. Then a pushy, know-it-all neighbor shows up and edges over to the dying guy and says "he ain't moving - he's still breathing though" and walks around talking to the other lookers that arrive.
Yup, that's the state of our society.
Big question is what will she do for her prom date?
