He enjoyed playing surreal roles. He stole the show playing “The Evil Genius” in Time Bandits. And he did lot of voice acting for fantasy/science fiction children’s TV shows.

He was excellent as Captain James Sawyer, a mentally ill, despotic and unstable ship’s captain in the A&E Horatio Hornblower series.
