Well, it was something of an IQ test to see if you could avoid without breaking the law. I had a Plan A, B, and C that I never had to get to. I had no intention of participating in Mr. Johnson’s war as cannon fodder.

LOL, I appreciate your remarks. I graduated from HS in 1972, and my number was in the 300s IIRC.

It didn't matter, I did the ROTC route, thanks to an Army ROTC scholarship. Went on active duty 7/8/76.

LBJ (and MacNamara) really screwed the pooch.

Or I should say SOME of them will survive all the way to Armageddon.

Not all. Not with the bowl and trumpet judgments (yikes).

The world will want to UNite in the face of such a crisis.

One good thing about it. When the tyrants turn the military on we the people, we will win.

At this rate, the US Military will decimated within 3-5yrs, and Tanzania, Rhodesia etc etc etc will easily kick our butts.

You are conflating recruiting and overseas deployments.

The question really is: what are our troops defending? Certainly not our own borders. We are being invaded everyday and yet we enthusiastically send our troops abroad to serve the security interests of other countries. That’s indefensible when you’re ignoring your own.

Do you know how many foreign military bases we have around the world? Do we really need that many?

My son is in combat infantry

Currently Bradley training working up the scouts platoon etc ladder trying for 75th or green sock caps

They have staved off the age a bit with WOT winding down

Green hats won’t even look at u till 21

75th maybe if you’re exemplary

A few corporals but prefer noncoms

He’s signed up for a four year bit

We’ll see

The eleven bravo and eleven X-ray guys are not woke yet

Which surprised me

No split tails anywhere except one quartermaster who he claims is like den mother and very nice for a master sergeant

At Benning graduation last January we had to bring all this stupid covid proof and the base commander when he opened ceremonies told all of us screw that take your masks off

They are training like F now in hot humid southern swamp

None of them want to go to Ukraine but they wil of course

Naturally they feel they are all professional killers now

I tell him Russians ain’t a primitive force

Careful what you wish for

Id prefer to see him kill savages butchering Christian women and children in nw Africa

Young men so full of piss and vinegar

It’s as old as time isn’t it

After spending my childhood traveling the world with my Dad, all with the military, I was not allowed to join the military under Carter.

Makes me very thankful today ... back then not so much.

My only request for the next war - let's have the generals and politicians send their own kids and grandkids to war, and leave us out of it.

I suspect that that is another story that will end the same way.

No, that's not the question at all. Are you sure you are in the right thread? This thread is specifically about recruiting - it's right in the title of the thread itself:

"The US military went woke, now it can't find recruits"

And that has nothing to do with overseas deployments at all. As I pointed out previously, recruiting was very strong during most of the past two decades when we were at war overseas constantly. Also, our overseas deployments now are at their lowest level since before World War 2. This is the exact time to join if you don't want to deploy overseas. At least, in comparison with the last seven decades.

The idea that it is overseas deployments that are causing the drop in recruiting is contradicted by those realities.

PGR88 made the comment "Kids are catching on - you are not defending America".

I was responding to his remark (i.e., basically what are our troops defending?). He has a right to say that and I have a right to reply to him.

You sound like some type of censor trying to limit what kind of replies I can make TO SOMEONE ELSE based on your interpretation of the topic of the thread.

But with regard to deployments again I ask do you know how many foreign military bases we have around the world? Hint: no other country comes anywhere close to our vast array of facilities overseas.

I never said anyone didn't have the right to say whatever the hell they want. But the remark you were replying to was about recruiting. What else do you think was meant by the "Kids are catching on" part? So that's what I was addressing -- the argument that our current overseas deployments are the explanation for a drop in recruiting.

Look, if you just want to make a general point that we have too many overseas commitments, that's fine. I don't care. I'm simply saying there is no logical reason to believe that our current overseas commitments have anything to do with recruiting, or that kids aren't enlisting because they have "caught on" that we deploy overseas, which is really just the same point.

Its so kind of you to allow me the privilege of doing that.

Seriously, do you realize how arrogant you come across?

Don’t really care. I’m just tired of a certain segment trying to blame everything that’s gone wrong in the country on our support for Ukraine. And it didn’t take much digging to figure out that’s where some folks are coming from in terms of blaming poor recruiting on “overseas commitments”.

The US 'military' should recruit in the 'sexually confused' communities.

Sexual weirdos would be happy to die for their country. Right? Isn't that what they're always talking about? /s

“Makes me very thankful today ... back then not so much.”

I grew up an Army brat before and during Vietnam and I agree with you. Long before I was draft age I came to the conclusion that politicians will pointlessly waste lives without a second thought and I grew to despise them as much as any potential enemy.

Most of my brat friends did not seek military careers. I think we all admired our fathers and had a high regard for the military, and all would have served if called. But we didn’t go out of our way to be part of it.

Put Liz Cheney, the Bush and Romney kids in the front line with rifles. Then we will see how enthusiastic they really are for war.

Ha. I recognize part of that. Ol’ Country Joe was probably a commie but the song was still catchy.
