AC is cheap, I can go to the local big box club and get a 25000 btu window unit for under $600 hardly the end of the world. My grand parents house in the desert South West of Texas was built in 1910 it has no central A.C. There is one 25,000 btu unit in the living room that cools that, the dinning room, kitchen and study. Each of the three bedrooms have a 10000 btu unit. SW near the Mexican border Texas goes to 110+F every summer we just call that summer. They lived in that house without AC until the 1960s their parents before them never had A.C. In those temperatures.
I have noticed that houses in the SW are built for hot weather styled on Spanish architecture. They have roofed patios so the sun doesn’t come in, they allow breezes to flow through, the materials are different, etc.
However, in Canada, they build to maximize and keep in the warmth. Windows that let sunlight in, lots of insulation, and wind barriers, triple-paned windows, etc.
Moreover, those most vulnerable to a heat wave are those most likely to not have spare money to spend on an ac unit for just a few days of heat.
Try to understand that not everyone lives in circumstances similar to yours. How would you feel if Canadians scoffed at the difficulties the Texans had during that freeze last year? After, Canadians deal with that type of weather all the time.
