Last night I had to work on my mower which the belt broke and swap it out for the bush hog, I live in the woods.

Went to bed, woke up with 2 of them crawling around on me that I missed getting undressed.

I think I killed 300 of them while trying to go back to sleep after that, which was impossible as every pass of the fan moved a hair and I would feel around looking for one of the little b*stards.

I bought a nice, powerful pellet rifle and so far have killed four copperheads on my property and two at the request of neighbors
Starting to get cocky…

Bravecto works great on my dogs - expensive but they only take it every 3 months, and I take them off it over the winter

I have king black snakes in my barn. I don’t mind them because they kill copperheads. But they sure do make me jump. One fell out of the rafters almost on top of me, lol.

Other than that one snake, I really am nervous around snakes. We have a ton of water snakes in our creek and they look a lot like copperheads too but DH wants us to leave them be.

That’s the problem once you find one on you.

Then there’s black lint to deal with on your clothes.

Hi.

I tried to avoid this thread. Really I did.

I have hunted in many places. Ticks, scorpions, rattlesnakes, spiders, alligators etc.

But in some states that I’ve hunted, they have what’s called seed ticks. Hard to see, insidious little bastards. Difficult to dislodge.

Sometimes you find them on your priv...

Nevermind.

I live in the Pine Barrens of South Jesey. All manner of critters. Left food out for a cat that was hanging around. Turned on the light around 10 pm and three possums were on my deck. They’ve been around for several years now. One even brought its youngster on night. A box turtle even stops in for a snack once in awhile.

It’s important to know they can be found anywhere on the body.

The adult deer ticks are easy to spot and most likely to carry Lyme.

The other stages in their life cycle are much smaller and very difficult to see.

One does not need to go into the woods to get ticks.

Here in S.E. Michigan suburbs, I've never seen a tick in my life until last fall when I discovered one on my kitchen counter top.

Have no idea how it got there, maybe was on me or maybe my cat brought it in from the outside.....

It freaked me out to say the least.

We have found them in the bathroom, the kitchen dish drainer, the bed……

And we don’t have pets.

I hate ticks.

Problem.

Someone at my wife’s place of employment went up to “hill country” to shop for Christmas trees after the big fires we had the previous summer here in California.

They went to the woman’s favorite tree farm, but it had a sign up saying it had lost most of its trees in the fire and was out of business for the season.

As they began pulling away, three big beautiful German Shepherds began chasing after them looking like they were desperate for human help. They all had collars and looked like they had once been owned by someone who had taken good care of them. But after loading them into their SUV and getting back on the road, the lady’s kids began screaming that the dogs were covered head-to-toe in ticks.

So the lady dropped them off at a neighboring farm with a man who said he would take them to the county pound the next day for treatment.

Poor things. I hope the pound actually treated them, and didn’t just put them down.

There’s an animal rescue video of some dogs which were rescued and they were literally covered with ticks. It was beyond disgusting as most of them were engorged.

When they started pulling them off, the dogs were just bleeding. It was heartbreaking.

Thank God, though, that those ticks never got to reproduce.

I have four chickens and zero ticks. My two dogs haven’t brought home a single tick in years. Thanks, chickies! The eggs are nice, too!
