I’ve been 100% remote since the start of Covid. I’m never going back. I’ve told every headhunter I work with as a contractor that I am only interested in 100% remote roles.
How's this for context?
A group of Apple employees have accused the big-tech giant of racism over its push for corporate workers to return to the office, saying that the shift back to an in-person model will make the company 'younger, whiter, [and] more male-dominated.'
The modern workplace, like Apple, is racist, because white guys are likely to show up for work.
Think about THAT!
and now I have a good idea which one of the big 3 you work for. :^) One is particularly militant about making everybody return to the office.
I’m in banking too. As a contractor I’m 100% remote and will stay that way.
but for the exact OPPOSITE reasons...
they don’t have to put up wi this wokiness and can in many cases be hired right back as a consultant!
or just get out early and go Galt
Word, Excel, and Powerpoint were all invented in the 1980s. I think Boomers know how they work. Boomers are probably the ones who taught the young 'uns how to use them.
Hi.
I get emails from recruiters at least once a week.
For CFO, controller and project mgr type positions.
I live on island time now, and wouldn’t work 60 hrs a week at $200k a year. For nobody.

Back in the 2000s, I hired a graphic designer through Craigslist.
and with them, the entire collective corporate memory
Don’t hang around to help. The company will treat you poorly and it will not end the way you think it should.
When the white males that do the vast bulk of the actual work leave, those places will suffer greatly for their deliberate decisions.
I am in that boat, too. 62 and trying to hang on until 65, but not sure if I can stomach all the diversity and CRT and wokeism garbage. Pension would be good, though I would have to pay for my insurance. Praying for direction and God’s wisdom for the right decision.
These are careerists and not job-hoppers. They were the institutional memory of their companies. I was one of them.
It wouldn't surprise me if most of them are millionaires several times over from their 401(k) and pension benefits.
I'll bet that many of them are going to go John Galt and take their retirement savings and withdraw from the labor force to spend their savings on the lifestyles they deferred while working.

“The vax mandates had a meta-message—that the employer viewed the employees as slaves with zero rights.
That meta-message contradicts every stated corporate culture which means that intelligent employees (who did not know before) have now learned something new about their senior management—senior management is a gang of liars.
Once the trust is lost there is no reason for loyalty to the organization.”
This is how I feel about my employer. I see all the fancy slogans and mission statements and values that they say they have but in reality they don’t. They don’t care a whit about their employees. What’s even worse is my employer is a healthcare provider. They mandated boosters by March 31, I waited because I suspected something fishy was going on. April 1 they sent a system wide email saying “just kidding, the mandate for boosters has been revoked”.
I guarantee that was intentional.
.
I retired back in January. I am 59. would have received a full pension at age 62. We are fine with a partial pension and other income. The wokeness was driving me crazy.
Them's vegetable seeds, right?
I always say the hospitals want to Look good for Jahco, but not necessarily BE good......
eg: hospital had a directive that if a patient asks why their call light wasn't answered quicker, we are NOT to say that there is not enough staff, even when true....that would make the hospital look bad.....
so the implication to the patient is that the nurse is just lazy.....
It was one of the best decisions I made in my life in both cases. I am truly free from the daily nonsense....
Why not just start your own business - one you can control your hours and time doing it.
I know one guy who does well reselling items at flea markets and loves it. Hunts during the week and sets up over the week end. And he calls all the shots.
Another guy is a contractor. Works when he wants to.
I hear ya. It wouldn’t bother me too much. But I believe that experiment was tried in the 1860’s.
Today, I think it’s more about control instead of many of the issues back then. The ones who want control want to CONTROL, not to let people disagree and go their way.
The original construction of the United STATES of America valued differing viewpoints. If you didn’t like the way Georgia ran things, you could move to Maryland. “State Law” was a big deal. Now it’s “Federal Law” that controls.
I still like your idea if we could make it work...
