Making a 4 year old drink that much alcohol is first degree murder in my book unless one tries to make the argument these people were too ignorant and/or stupid to know that to be the case.
It depends on the jury. If they get enough ignorant people on the jury perhaps they get off on the 1st degree charge. The prosecution has much to consider here.
Nitpicking: I wish news stories about alcohol did not always compare blood alcohol levels to a legal limit. The legal limit is for driving a vehicle. It only matters when you get pulled over. Any other time it is basically meaningless.
Alcohol is a poison. The amount of alcohol that can be survived depends on how quickly your liver can make enzymes to break alcohol down. It is different for everyone. Children don’t make alcohol enzymes nearly as fast as adults and heavy drinkers make them much faster than average normal people.

How in the world did they get a 4yo to drink half a bottle of Whiskey? What size bottle was it? Most kids would fight any attempt to drink it. It’s harsh. Burns going down, tastes nasty..how did they get that baby to drink half a bottle of any size???
Death penalty. Poor, beautiful little girl never stood a chance.
Oh horse puckey! The type of people who have enough of a conscience to feel such remorse would never have forced that child to drink a half bottle of whiskey. It's long past time that we as a society stop being soft on criminals of every type.
honestly.. I think they had the right intentions but were too stupid to know that people can die of alcohol poisoning. Many people don’t know you can die of water poisoning also.

I think you might want to consider what kind of monsters they are before attributing to them the emotions that say a normal person would be expected to have. Its a corollary to the saying that you should not expect rational responses from irrational people.
no, I was thinking more on the lines of what someone earlier in the thread mentioned about being made to smoke the whole cigarette to teach them a lesson.
1st degree murder requires intent, I just don’t see it here, I see a couple of low IQ’s who were trying to teach a lesson the old fashioned way and were too stupid too know what might happen.

I've never heard of the "21 shots on the 21st birthday" celebration of introduction to adult alcohol consumption. Families that consume alcohol moderately and responsibly (e.g. wine with dinner) tend to teach the same thing to their kids, so when the kids grow up they don't go wild when they hit their majority.
There are health classes in high schools—the danger of death from drinking should be taught.
Good idea, like driver education. But there are a lot of things they don't teach and should be teaching.
The kids and mother have the same last name as the grandmother....right?
