In the early 90’s I worked for a company that handled cars coming in from Japan. The cars were coated with Cosmoline to prevent corrosion while at sea on the ship and a standard task was to run the cars through a special car wash to rinse off this gooey substance.
The workers would drive the car up to the entrance and allow the front tire to become engaged by the chain mechanism, then step out of the car after the vehicle started moving. We would walk around the building and pick up the vehicle on the other side of the wash.
The reason we didn’t ride through the car wash was because the rinse was 160-180 degrees when applied and far too hot to be a passenger inside while going through the wash.
Surprisingly dangerous work.
We’ve been binging this week. :)
BTW, Better Call Saul new season starts tonight.
You know a man of my ability
He should be smokin’ on a big cigar
But till I get myself straight I guess I’ll just have to wait
In my rubber suit a rubbin’ these cars
Well, all I can do is a shake my head
You might not believe that it’s true
For workin’ at this end of Niagara Falls
As an undiscovered Howard Hughes
So baby, don’t expect to see me
With no double martini in any high brow society news
‘Cause I got them steadily depressin’, low down mind messin’
Workin’ at the car wash blues
