That’s the argument of Daredevil vs Punisher and/or Batman.
Daredevil & Batman don’t kill (canonically, not in the recent movies). Punisher says F* that, you rape, murder, etc. - you’re gonna die.
The argument really stems from nature vs. nurture; ie: is one BORN bad, or can they be rehabilitated.
Some are just born bad. There’s literally nothing you can do with them but put them down and out of society.
There was a guy in Pasadena years ago that shot at and killed at least one intruder of his NEIGHBOR’S home, while his neighbor was out at work. The gentleman called Pasadena PD, who said they’d get around to it when they could, and he said “Nevermind, I just shot the bastards” and got a LOT of cops showing up very quickly.
I won’t put his name here, because there were no charges filed, but there are ample articles about it from June of 2008.

That’s very risky doing that in CA. They love criminals in California. The entire state is an illegal alien sanctuary.

That’s a very good gesture, but not a smart move due to the fact these criminals often have accomplices close by, and many are armed. The good good samaritan was very lucky.
