Perusing the site this story came from, it seems like this is a common occurrence in Zambia, there being a widespread belief in witches there and the victims being primarily the elderly.

She said brief facts are that for a long time, the children have been suspecting their father to have been the one behind various ailments they were suffering from. There was probably also a nosey neighbor lady who was constantly peeking through the curtains and observing the supernatural shenanigans.
