I didn't know there were any of those around any more. Both Cuomo's emptied the psych centers in NY State, and turned many of the buildings into prisons. And plenty of those patients ended up in the prison system. Also, many individuals who had been residents in psych centers were farmed out to adult-assisted nursing homes. My oldest sister was one of those. And every time she got into an argument, or physical confrontation with one of the other residents, they'd send her out to one of the hospitals in Rochester for a week, for a psych evaluation...and the cycle repeated itself every so often. My sister was an alcoholic who ended up being institutionalized before she was 30. She was in and out of the psych center, until she was permanently institutionalized due to early onset of dementia. And because she was institutionalized, she managed to outlive everyone else in the family but me. I was the baby, and am 74, the same age she was when she passed in 2014.
