If I recall, Signal does their own encryption, separate from Apple.
For group messaging, where there’s a mix of iPhone + Android, we use a Telegram group.
Those blue iMessages are the lock-in to iPhone & Apple. My experience is iPhone users won’t move off of iMessage.
If you are using iMessage and Signal, you aren't using T-Mmobile's SMS network, you are bypassing it. The assertion is that if you use SMS (green message in iMessage), T-Mobile is blocking it.
Let’s start a petition to ask FR to block Alex Jones, Gateway Pundit, and other low quality, clickbait, conspiracy sites. Their presence is creating a downward spiral here - driving high quality users away, and attracting kooks.
"THE FR IS PORN TO DEMOCRATS. WE HERE AT THE FR ARE NEXT."
Yes, praise God! Amen!
I think a Kroger blocked me when I was using its wifi in a seating area. I can’t remember if it also blocked FR.
It would appear Mariner plainly answered “No” to that question.
Three important points:
1. Know that they are doing it. Now we know for certain that they are.
2. Expect all providers to do this and it will not stop with text messages.
3. Plan accordingly. Use encrypted services. I have heard that Signal is pretty good.
I, like many, are law abiding. We have nothing to hide. We'd prefer to use the services that are available to us but we are being forced into a corner. And no, this not a good thing. Not a good thing at all. Unless, we are criminals and are deemed such through >due process<, this is wrong and should be illegal. But as we have learned, the current administration and most local governments were and are willing to bend or even break the laws to achieve their personal and political objectives.
And for all those naysayers... guaranteed, it will happen to you eventually. It will come to you and on your door step. Your favorite news source, liberal or conservative, will be blocked because you used the justification that it is not my favorite news or I despise that website so why should I care.
Ya. But I bet that it bothers them. Common sense rules here. I am hopeful.... :)
Thank you, very very well said. As a developer I have been playing with alternative secure platforms the last year myself.
We have been using Qtox as the most secure message platform out there, and Zeronet as an alternative internet where you can build your own websites. Both highly encrypted P2P using blockchain networks and onion protocols.
This is the future. Need to get off the top indexed internet and create your own private internet. Any group can do it for free. The software is open source.
But when the normal internet so many are cashing in on becomes threatened because everyone is leaving they will change their tune and fix this crap.
Hope for the best but plan for the worst. Maybe people will stop this. But I don't expect it to happen. There are powerful people who want to control what we see and the Internet in general. All for the “collective good.”
Rob Braxman is a good resource too and for general stuff. At one point, I would have considered him paranoid and silly. Not anymore. I have not bought his degoogled phone nor his VPN router nor pay for any of his services. But he has inspired me to do things to protect myself.
Signal has issues too but it is better than others. I haven't tried it yet but will be soon.

Hey, not a trivial thing, but you can create your own email server using a spare computer and Linux. I did it and it works really well, is encrypted, and completely private and works with the phone and computer apps. It is not connected into the general email web so I don't have to worry about spam.
I considered creating my own signal server, too. Again, it can be done on a spare computer running Linux. But a messaging app like it is a bit more complicated. :)
I am also a Linux user. I have built my own VPN server also. But found it helps to have a static IP address to port forward through rather than a dynamic address.
You might like coming and checking out our Qtox group. But here is the link to the client downloads below. But if you have access to the Ubuntu repository it can be found there also and then updated to the most recent version through your terminal. But the current version in the Ubuntu/Mint repository should already be the newest version.
But it would give you a trusted working group to interact with for your personal testing reasons. You are welcome, just let me know by PM and we will get you in the group after you get the client with an ID. It is easy, secure, and just works well... :)
