The best swing shift I ever worked were 12 hour shifts.

One 12 hour shift 6am - 6pm
24 hours off

One 12 hour shift 6pm - 6am
72 hours off

I was an hour away from the Outer Banks and sometimes on the second shift I got off in the morning and would have the van loaded and ready in the parking lot and I would walk out to the parking lot and drive one hour to Cape Hatteras, park the van crawl in the back take a nap wake up around noon and start fishing for 2 days.

Back then OBX wasn’t much, during the offseason there was nothing down there. Even during the tourist season it wasn’t too crowded during the week. But times have changed. I haven’t lived in the Carolinas for over 40 years.

But as good as that was particular schedule was, even after a while shift work still wears you out.
