Has there been any official pronouncements why Van Boy wasn’t held in custody early on, as he was an obvious flight risk? The Daily Mail article said that the Police Chief stated that no crime had been committed in North Port so I'm guessing he's saying he had no authority....but the FBI did, didn't they. They couldn't arrest Laundrie but they sure as heck should have been watching him.

Well, regarding my phone, you can go back years and see where my phone was with pretty good accuracy for any time of any day.
When I worked with law enforcement relations for a major cell provider I used to tell people, “if you’re planning on doing something nefarious, don’t take your phone.”
Your phone is constantly pining towers and this data is kept for years to be subpoena’d by law enforcement and can be used to track your physical location at any given time with ridiculous accuracy.

But she could have pulled the “stop the car and let me out here!” card. So he did.

FReepers have said cell service is very spotty where they camped. Landrie claimed to police he had no phone but an article claims he kept his turned off and only Gabby's was on so who knows.
We do know that a vlogging couple turned in video to FBI showing Gabby's van in a remote area and, Bingo!, they find her body a short distance away.

But she could have pulled the “stop the car and let me out here!” card. So he did. Not likely. It's her van and she told police she was afraid he was going to leave her again. Apparently he's a control freak (according to articles) and she suffers from anxiety.
Have you seen his "art" work? Scary.

I’m not really following the case all that much. It’s one of thousands and I’m more interested in political stuff.
Fact is, nobody knows what happened and, for all we know, his body will end up being found next.
I just really hate to see, on FR, people go into “guilty until proven innocent” mode. We should be above that.

This ‘I-want-to-RV-America-to-be-free’ syndrome is reaching some stage where I think there’s ten-thousand of people (under the age of 25) on this kind of ‘trip’. Very few of my fellow millennials are "free spirits" or even wannabes. It's more of a boomer thing. The aging survivors of their era and all its excesses, are some of the most cautious people you'll ever meet -- they know it's a brutal world.
In any case, a young woman going about the country in an imagined bubble of invulnerability, can easily become more free and more spirit than she bargained for.

Could it be they just discovered they were Trump supporters?

The FBI is probably there to plant Trump memorabilia so they can blame it all on Trump

15? They must have suspected Roger Stone was visiting.

I have no idea what happened but he never called for help and drove home alone in her van, refused to talk to her family and police and now we know she’s dead and he’s disappeared. Looks very suspicious.

So per WFLA reporter, dad came out to vehicle and got papers about 30 min before FBI arrived.

Without evidence of a crime, on what charge would the FBI have held him? The FBI can only get involved if there is a Federal crime such as interstate flight to avoid prosecution. But with no evidence yet, they couldn’t arrest him for that.

About 15 FBI agents and @NorthPortPolice raced to the Laudrie home with lights flashing and just went into the home with a lot of equipment.Maybe they just found out he was at the rally on January 6.

I never said the FBI should have arrested him. They should have WATCHED him....and no one did. My Post 41 says: They couldn't arrest Laundrie but they sure as heck should have been watching him.

The scene where she was found, and her body itself will reveal a great deal more than what is now known. Regardless of what actually happened, though, Laundrie and his parents have made some very bad decisions.
Leaving Wyoming in Gabby's van was the first really bad decision; expecting that they could keep silent about it was another.

Your phone is constantly pining towers and this data is kept for years to be subpoena’d by law enforcement and can be used to track your physical location at any given time with ridiculous accuracy. I saw that for myself on a trial I sat on a few years back (I was on the jury). The DA went through methodically how the signals worked and what towers the signal travelled through. It put the perp right at the scene of the crime and was some of the most compelling evidence that led to his conviction.
They also introduced Facebook posts and text messages as evidence in which the perp not only planned out his crime (a drug related shooting) but appeared to be bragging about his crime afterwards to his friends.
It's shocking how stupid criminals typically are.
Law enforcement has access to pretty much everything you do on the internet or on a smartphone.
