That happened to my cousin. He played college football and is over 6’. His first wife was diminutive and hit him constantly.
He never fought back.
Then one day she stabbed him. They divorced and now he’s happily married to a great woman and has two lovely daughters.
Men often don’t fight back, knowing that the police will think that he’s the aggressor.
