He was gaslighting her .
To get away with killing her snd he did and took her van and escaped .
The bodies of The “newlywed lesbian couple” who were murdered last month were found in the same area two days after the domestic incident between Petito and Laundrie. That’s quite a coincidence.

One of the reasons there was so much resistance to gay marriage was the specter of gay divorce.
How would the court know who to screw over if there was no obvious tinkle toy disparity?

The video was odd... she said she kept apologizing to him because of her OCD and that she was in a bad mood. She also said she was trying to get her blog running and I think she mumbled he didn’t believe she could? I don’t know... I’ve told all three of my kids that if a relationship EVER turns physical.. LEAVE. Right then and now. I have a gal friend in a married relationship that sounds so much like her... defending him by “soft blaming” her own actions (for example, I’m not very lovey when I am tired and that annoys him). I’m hoping for the best for this young woman.

Insightful. Perhaps she has had a psychotic break and is still alive but so mentally gone/shattered personality that she is even unable to contact her parents, perhaps blaming them for letting her travel with the guy. If your insight is close to accurate then she has separtated herself from not only the guy but the reality she was in.
That’s as good as any other WAG. Eventually, the story will come out.

The more recent generations have been raised with progressively less and less adversity.

IF she had just disappeared he most likely would have reported that to the local police in WY or UT.
More likely he snapped and killed by accident or because she pushed him to the point that he snapped. Manslaughter
IF her body is not found, they can not charge him unless there was blood evidence in the van.
He can just say, we argued, she left and he never saw her again.
I know it sounds crazy, but my daughter did the same thing with her boyfriend last fall, for 4-1/2 months. Because of CoVid they were able to work remotely. As soon as New York opened up, they fled. They did Air BnB rentals/ bartering during the week, and hiked/tent camped on the weekends, in the western half of the U.S.
They had so much fun, they did the same thing in June and July this year. They’ve been to a lot of National Parks and have many beautiful photos of the scenery.
These kids are 10+ years younger than my daughter and her boyfriend, so I have no idea how they financed this trip.
It may not have escalated to violence. He may have just left her somewhere. Or she may have stormed out of the relationship. Perhaps into the desert in the middle of the night. He might have reached his limit and drove off, calling her bluff.
She may yet turn up in the company of new companions. Or her bones may be bleaching in the sun where she expired on her own. We may or may not ever know.
I know a woman like this. Her instability and potential to cause havoc are a very serious issue for those around her. Thankfully I am not one of them.

Best fatherly advice to a son is the following:
When it comes to both women & life, a wise man has an escape plan; a dumbass is like a fly to a Dionaea muscipula, woman or otherwise.
That stated, I truly sympathize with the victims of hormonal Jekyll/Hyde syndrome (a woman transformed by childbirth); children complicate everything.
This kid, however, should meet a tree.
He’s putting on a good act. He’s the rational one, the victim, he’s a choir boy.
If he’s innocent why not cooperate with the police?
She could be more of a nut because he’s gas-lighting her.

She id dead and he stole her Van and drove 2000 miles away and hid at his parents and they are blocking the cops .
He sent fake texts to her mother .
They were both mentally ill but he is the evil vetsion.
