If your service obligations have been met and you are not under a contract then you can indeed resign your commission. It’s not quite a ‘walk away’ but by the end of a given month they’d be gone.
However, in an adverse situation like this I’d expect the officers to be immediately released from duty for the ‘good of the service’. It would not surprise me if the woke douchebags in DC hold these people over for some idiot duty in Thule or Elmendorf but soon enough they’ll be gone.
And the USAF will literally be less capable than it was yesterday.
I was in Denmark last month and they were surprised when TSA required them to get people to sign a form stating they tested negative to Covid within 3 days to board the plane to USA. It was laughable. Everyone just signed the form without the test..
