Yes, I think they might have forgotten their whole strategy to keep people complacent relied on making sure the people had too many creature comforts to want to risk going out and resisting any kind of tyranny.
Take those comforts away and the people have nothing to lose anymore.
In England they have been killing at least 120,000 people a year just so the administrators can get bonus money.
