Wawa is going down hill. Higher prices, less selection, etc. Near $2 for a fountain drink and they got rid of pretzels here in FL.
“At the time other stores would take your list, fill the basket you brought with you and off you went.”
Interesting. What’s old is new again!

I did a double take in South Carolina the first time I saw a store named "Piggly Wiggly" and thought, can "Turkry Lurkey" be far behind?
Nice

The knife-wielding customers is now in the waiting room at the hospital still complaining about not being served fast enough...
You mean in the districts that claimed 100%+ voter turnout?
On the south side of the tracks (Cresheim Valley Dr). No go zone. Coming up Cresheim from the Expressway or Center City via Lincoln Drive to to Creshiem where it crosses Germantown Ave, turn left on Germantown Ave to Chestnut Hill; not right, towards Mt Airy.
Man, I remember Piggly Wiggly from my childhood. Kroger recently bought them but left the name intact in most locations. Says they have 500 stores mostly in the south.
Yes, that’s a great one. I remember first seeing Piggly Wiggly in north Florida when I was a little kid and we were visiting our grandma. My brother and I both thought the name was hilarious.
Sometimes my gran would suggest stopping by Winn-Dixie for something, but my brother and I would always campaign for Piggly Wiggly.

LOL!!
Just remembering what went through my mind first time I saw a SHEETZ while traveling through western PA.

I agree. Piggly has come down to our rural county and it’s in walking distance. I love it and have compared it’s prices to WM. Not much difference and I don’t have to drive a distance.
My local Wawa has ordering kiosks, so we just go in, order what we want (great milkshakes) then go to the cashier, then get what we ordered. The Goose is a great store...
"Wawa" is the word in the Algonquian Indian language for "Canada goose", presumably the sound they make flying over. There was an ancient Indian settlement west of Philadelphia named Wawa, and it eventually became an English settler township.
About 200 years ago, a family founded the Wawa Dairy farm in Wawa, PA. It has since grown from a chain of food markets to a chain of highly successful convenience stores with a flying goose in their logo. Many of the city locations have only parking, but their last decade or two has seen Wawa expand to highway locations offering gas stations.
Still a privately-held corporation (34th largest in the U.S.), Wawa used to be in the Philly-Wilmington metro regions only, but now is scattered all along the main north-south east coast I-95 superhighway. Now you can drive from New Jersey southbound and follow the Wawa road signs to find good gas prices, a clean store, and the same great coffee and Philadelphia specialties like hoagies, cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, Tastycakes and Goldenberg's Peanut Chews along with the usual sodas and other convenience fare, most of the way down to Florida.
What is Wawa? A great store that is popular in Florida. Wawa, meaning Goose in the Delaware language, is based in Wawa, Pennsylvania.
