Another American Athlete to be Proud of: Sydney McLaughlin Destroys Her Own World Record and Makes the Olympics Fun Again

Dalilah Muhammad’s silver medal time was faster than McClaughlin’s record from June. Muhammad was also the defending Olympic champion. Until the U.S. trials, no woman had ever run the 400-meter hurdles in under 52 seconds. Now McLaughlin has done it twice and Muhammad once.

The two are everything that’s good about sports. After McClaughlin’s two world record races, Muhammad was the first to her with a smile and a hug to congratulate her. It’s a rivalry, yes, but it’s not a bitter one. Each knows the other makes her better and it shows.

In other good news the America hater Gwen Berry who turned her back on the flag finished next to last in her heat.

She finished 11 of 12. She finished 2 spots ahead of me as I finished 13 of 12 and didn’t even bother showing up.

Watched this last night....they had a feed from her old high school- Union Catholic. It was packed.

In the front was a older grey haired woman wearing a Union Catholic shirt and waving an American flag- it had to be a Nun.

Later they showed Sydney the film from Union Catholic. She said, “I seen see my principal (had to be the Nun), I can see my old track coach.”

BTW- should also add, Sydney was very good but became great when she recently moved to LA and trained under Bob Kersee (Jackie-Joyners husband who also trained Flo-Jo)

I was at the watch party…both my kids graduated from Union Catholic. You r correct, the lady is Principal Percy Lee. I talked to her afterward and she said Sydney has a global platform to talk about the greatness of God…that talk left an impression on me on how maybe this is God’s will.

BTW, the watch party was electric and an incredible atmosphere…so happy she won!
