I used to think there weren’t any American casualties on those 2 raids but it turns out there were 19 American POWs killed. I like to think if we knew about them that we woulda chosen a different target.

But it was about 10,000 to 1 kill ratio, by far the most effective military raid in history.

Sorry, a lot of this is historically inaccurate.

Japan in no way surrendered because we dropped atomic bombs. We did more damage to them through our conventional bombing campaign, than the two atomic bombs did.

Their war council met and opted not to surrender after the first atomic bomb. And it had already decided to surrender before it could meet about the second bomb.

You are totally ignoring the real reason Japan surrendered. One minute after midnight August 9th, the Soviets invaded Japan's mainland territory and started slicing through it.

Japan was already extremely fearful of the Soviets since they go their butss kicked in the Battle of Khalkin Gol in 1939. They wanted no part of fighting against the Soviets and they certainly didn't want to surrender to the Soviets and have Japan under Soviet occupation. They were choosing which country would occupy them.

Why do you think the U.S. picked the days they did to drop atomic bombs? The USSR, by agreement with the Allies, had until 3 months after VE Day to declare war on Japan. So, we knew they were waiting until the last minute, and when it would happen.

Roosevelt and Churchill totally screwed the United States over, by allowing this. If the USSR wanted Allied assistance, they should have had to drop neutrality and declare war on Japan immediately.

There was never going to be an invasion. Japan was always going to have to surrender on August 9th, the last day Russia had to declare war. I suppose if Japan had people Russia back that night, it could have drawn out, but what were chances of that, at that point?

Japan was never going to allow the chance of being under Russian control, when they could opt for U.S. control.

Perhaps ‘alone’ backwards? A way of saying she’s never alone.

We dropped the bomb not to get Japan to surrender, but as a warning to the Soviets. Of course, we didn't realize that by then the Russians had already stolen all the information they needed to make their own bomb.

Truman didn't even know about atomic bombs and that we had created them until a few weeks AFTER he was sworn in as president.

Stalin knew about the Manhattan Project a year or more before Truman did.

Truman pulled Stalin aside at Potsdam, just the two of them and Stalin's translator. That's when Truman first "told" Stalin about the weapons. Of course, Stalin knew all about the project and that Russia had successfully infiltrated it. He probably knew more about the U.S. effort than Truman did.

And assuming if China turned Communist, how many troops would they have sent in, as they did in Korea?

Tojo wanted to try to assassinate Hirohito to prevent him from going on the radio and asking the Japanese people to accept surrender.

Things could have turned out much, much different if that had happened.

Then we owe one to the British. We wouldn’t even know who she was, if it weren’t for Brits.

I figure we owe them another one for Yoko Ono.

It's bad enough that Chapman killed a Beatle, but geez, couldn't he have saved a bullet for Yoko?
