A lot of Iowa venison is donated to local food banks, who are happy to get it.
In the parks near me, the deer are so used to people that you could almost hunt them with a hammer.
Not directly, and not in all states, but for example in WI legally harvested dee can be donated via an approved butcher who process it, then it’s distributed it to charities and food banks. I think it’s all made into ground venison.
Excellent point!
There was a time, with no hunting laws, that deer were rare in this area. I moved here in 1956, and never saw one till 1970.
Now they are everywhere. I see many ever week on our farm.
I live in the country. When driving I always drive down the center of the road when I can. This preventative tactic enables me to see both sides of the road with enough time to react if a deer jumps out.
I put some deer whistles in my bumper. Don’t know if they help or not, but can’t hurt.
“And they’ll contend it has no impact on game animals.”
Of course it won’t.
The wolves and cougar will be snacking on Fido and company along with any livestock nearby. Might take the occasional kid or small adult but no worries...just the great Circle of Life the gaia worshipers love.
Extend hunting season and increase Doe permits.

I second that motion.
I’ll back that and vote for year round season.
