Unless things have changed EVERY Texas State Trooper carries portable scales in their vehicle. One of the reasons they all used to drive pickup trucks.
They started changing over to SUV’s and the troopers I talked to hated it.

“I had never blown through a Chicken Coup at 55 mph, much less 75 mph.”

Then you didn’t have PrePass, electronic weigh station bypass. Your truck has a transponder like an EZ-Pass transponder. It tells the weigh station what company and truck the transponder is assigned to.
I got one specifically because I was making a lot of trips to/through Wyoming and stopping at the Port of Entry was a PITA.

Somewhat related. I saw how an infrared heat sensor is used at weigh stations to detect improperly adjusted brakes.

Yeah, things have changed a lot since then.
The E-logs were just getting started when I left long haul and started driving local. Just wasn’t worth it anymore, to me.

"things have changed"

Bet that the DPS Weight Men still get pissed if you stop too hard on their bathroom scales.

Spent many a time in the front seat of a DPS car, floor board full of DQ sacks.

“Bet that the DPS Weight Men still get pissed if you stop too hard on their bathroom scales.”

Ain’t that the truth!
Saw a driver roll up to a scale at about 15 mph then jam on the brakes, on the scales, at the last second. I was next in line.
The door to the scale house opened and someone knocked on my door. It was the weigh master. He told me to edge around the scales because “that guy is going to be here a while.”
I imagine they jumped down his throat and took their time ripping and tearing before they finally exited his anus.
I thanked him and edged around. I sure didn’t want to be the next driver they looked at that day.
