People are really silly about this. As you point out, shrimp is really not much different than the bugs we are talking about here. Yet not only do we eat them but we pay a premium price to do so.

If you can eat shrimp, no doubt you can handle some fried grasshoppers with a little garlic and Old Bay seasoning.

The only thing wrong with your line of reasoning, is that when I eat shrimp, crab, lobster, etc, I don’t at the eyes, legs, shell, guts. They don’t have a chewy center that explodes in your mouth.

Can you think of a good reason not to try a cicada, other than “ew”?

1) It divideth not the hoof, nor cheweth the cud.

2) It has not been bled

3) It has not been cleaned & skinned: it is full of entrails & filth

Eating grasshoppers because they are LIKE shrimp or lobsters is akin to having sex with a chimpanzee because they are LIKE people.

They are pretty when they first split their shells, ivory with a pink and green iridescence. They darken as you watch, within the hour fully colored.

So you could pretend they were land shrimp, except I wonder about eating a gut full of clay, or do they self-purge? Maybe not till they are ready to fly.

Two on every lily plant, a dozen on one ferns clump, I have counted a dozen ready to emerge in three square feet of soil, translates to 100,000 in my one acre yard.

If I freeze them all, my family can eat for three years :)

I have not eaten a lot of exotic stuff in my life but one I did was kangaroo. Basically it tasted like lean beef which was fine except if I want lean beef i’ll get lean beef. No need to search out something exotic to replicate a taste that is readily available. Similar to every other exotic thing that tastes like chicken. Stick with chicken.
