Lumber was $358 per 1000 board foot last April.

It’s now over $1,048 per 1000 board foot - almost triple.

Lumber futures hit $1,158 the other day. And it shows no sign of stopping.

We came super close to buying a vacant piece of land last year, planning to build a new house in 2021. Thankfully, we decided at the last minute not to. With lumber and other commodity prices sky high, it easily could have been $300/sq ft just for the house and before landscaping, deck, sprinklers, etc.

Looks like we and others will be staying put in our current houses for a long time..or buying used vs. doing new construction.

It was mostly pulpwood so the demand for paper may not have been there. Except toilet paper. This was last March.

My neighbor put up a privacy fence last fall. He still has some to do but he’s waiting because lumber’s too expensive.

When he was putting it up, the poles were on my side. I told him that I truly didn’t care but the code says that poles need to be on the owners side. I didn’t want some busybody calling code enforcement on him.

He installed staggered boards on my side so it looks like board on board style.

You maybe right.

I am also buying 250 feet of 12/2 copper wire for $59 at the local coop vs $140 at menards. Still some old inventory out there if you can find it.

Oh my........I hope and pray you get better. We’re in spring season allergy time and my throat feels like sandpaper, nose running, coughing. Got a doc’s appt. Wednesday and they’ll ask me if I have any symptoms and I guess I best keep my mouth shut OR tell them what I have but not to worry.........we’ve had both vaccines so we’re incapable of getting or spreading Covid.......or or we? I still think this was planned more for control than anything else. I’m glad we’re in a Red State where people don’t go off the deep end. Take care of yourself and let us know how you come out. I hope it’s allergies.....

Everything is going up, nobody works anymore given the increased payments from the government.

Thanks-

i had the swab test- it’s way way better than it used to be- I never had the original method but hear it was awful- the new way is just barely up inside the nose- they do it twice- oen for quick test- one for more thorough- but it really wasn’t bad at all - I had it done just because I was feeling awful, and there supposedly isn’t any flu around- so out of precaution i had it done. Turns out it’s not covid- both tests came back negative.

I am feeling a bit better today- but still get wiped easy- gonna just take it easy one more day- should be good to go tomorrow-

I dreaded the swab test when the nurses did it.....heard they probably took out brain tissue along with the sample.....it was that far up. When I went for my first test she handed me the swab and told me to go up my nose as comfortable as possible then rest it on the nostril for a few seconds. I wanted to hug her. I was in such a state about having someone put a stick up my nostrils all the way to Canada. Hope you get better real soon........;)

oh I was nervous as all get out about the test- i thought they were still doing the original way- I braced for it, and i was nervous for nothing it turns out- The funny hting was the first test was with a short swab, I braced- & it wasn’t bad at all, I thought “Hmmm, the second wont be too bad either then” Then she took out a giganticly long swab lol- I bout lost it thinking it was the brain itching swab-I Braced again, but same deal- just barely went into the nose at all-

We joked about it o n the way home saying “Wanna go back tomorrow for another test? lol

Well thanks for the well wishes-

Existing home prices are going sky high too. I abandoned my search for a new home about a month (or so..) ago now and am staying in my townhome, much as I'd rather be in a single family home again.

He’s a wonderful carpenter (not his trade) but he was talking about how high lumber is especially plywood. Higher than a cat’s back......

No joke. A 3/4" 4x8' plywood (great for attic decking) used to be $12-15. Now they're $35+
